Cut & Run (Cut & Run #1)

I have to tell everyone that Cut & Run  was annoying, yet delightfully satisfying as well. This is a story about two FBI agents. One, a self absorbed, ex-marine Ty and the other a cyber geek, and reformed drug addict, Zane.

Their life together starts off easy. They were both great at their respectful position in the Bureau, however they were both needing more. Ty constantly forced others away, while Zane forced himself into his work.

A case however would force them to face the reality of not only their jobs but their past and future together.

Neither agent was happy with the assignment, but they were assigned to the case in NYC. One with all the bravado of a well thought out serial killer. Neither agent was prepared for what was about to happen as soon as they checked into the hotel.

Ty, was determined to harass and demoralize Zane from the beginning. What he did not expect was Zane's reaction and lack of emotion. No matter how hard he tried, Zane gave back what he was given. Soon, Ty found himself starting to feel something for Zane, not knowing if he felt the same.

Zane, was determined to prove himself on this case. He had been locked in the cage of Cyber Crimes for several years since, the untimely death of his wife and his relapse into drugs and boos. Upon the relentless torture from Ty's constant insults, Zane quickly found himself drawn to the coal man's son from Bluefield WVa.

The case however was a constant blockade. There was a killer that seemed to be working from the inside of the FBI, always one step ahead of the two agents. What was more disturbing was the lack of an obvious pattern to the killings. There was no racial, sexual or religious aspect to the crimes. Just a macabre seen of death and gore. It almost seemed that the killer was putting these victims on display for them.

We got a quick glimpse into the killer's mind when the POV switched to his. We found him standing outside the hotel that the agents thought they weree safe in. He was intrigued with their desire to catch him and just hoped that the distractions and evidence removal were enough to allow him the ability to continue to show his work.

It was bound to happen. Zane was in the shower and Ty was standing outside the curtain. The UST in this story was amazing. You could almost feel the desire oozing off the pages as you turned them. Once, the explosion occurred, you were not left unsatisfied. The connection that these two had was electric. What neither expected was the type of connection that was formed in their hearts as they gave into the desires of the flesh.

This story was annoying to say the least at first. The constant POV switches annoyed the hell out of me. As soon as I was getting back into the plot, BAM a POV switch fucked it up. The story quickly recovered into one of the best love stories and I cannot wait to read more. These characters had to not only face their pasts with each other, but the constant distractions thrown at them to fall love. Granted, neither spoke the dreaded three words to each other but their actions quickly showed their love for each other.

There is one unrealistic part of the plot that needs to be mentioned. There was a scene where the killer had been chasing Ty and Zane in a cab. There was a slug fest on four wheels that caused Zane to break his arm, and acquire some other injuries. The EMT on the scene was able to set his arm and give Zane anesthesia on the scene. I am part of the medical field and there is NO EMT that is able to preform this in the field. They are not trained for this. Unless the EMT was a physician, I highly doubt that this could have happened.

I hope that everyone will give this book a try and please muddle through the POV annoyance at the beginning as the story, although sometimes very predictable, this novel is well worth  the read. Abigail Roux did not disappoint.
