Lover Unleashed Black Dagger Brotherhood #9

Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, warrior cloth as her brother: A fighter by nature, and a maverick when it comes to the traditional role of Chosen females, there is no place for her on the Far Side… and no role for her on the front lines of the war, either.

When she suffers a paralyzing injury, human surgeon Dr. Manuel Manello is called in to treat her as only he can- and he soon gets sucked into her dangerous, secret world. Although he never before believed in things that go bump in the night- like vampires- he finds himself more than willing to be seduced by the powerful female who marks both his body and his soul.

As the two find so much more than an erotic connection, the human and vampire worlds collide … just as a centuries old score catches up with Payne and puts both her love and her life in deadly jeopardy

Summary via Goodreads.

Payne, the twin of V, locked away by her mother for fear of what she was. What she could become. The daughter of the Bloodletter. The one with a killing desire for revenge.

Okay, so I am going to write this review a little different. Why? Cause I can! No, this book was so different from the others. Usually, there is "love at first sight" and some sub plots setting up the next book.

Payne and Manny's relationship didn't seem to have the appropriate time to develop. There are some serious questions that need answered.

1. Payne ability to regenerate Manny and the sudden revelation that he might be related to Butch. Come on folks. I WANT TO KNOW!!! Of course, another half breed would be cool. What superpower would Manny have?

2. Where is the Scribe Virgin in all of this? Here is a story where both of her children are going through some serious emotional torment. Come on mom! Make an guest appearance.

Second, the main plot seemed to be geared towards super twin drama. V goes off the deep end, causing issues with Jane. However, even though they find their way thorough that pain, we do get a glimpse of what Butch and V could be. V asks Butch to break him. It is the only way to allow V to move on and deal with the emotions that were raging in his body. Folks, the images I had when that little S&M scene unfolded was one of, sweaty men rolling around with the soft glow of V's hand illuminating the darkness. Damn....they need to do it once...Just once...No one has to know....

HERE!!!!

Third was the epic case of blue balls that Qhuinn has. He needs Blay and NOW! Thank god, we only have 33 more days to wait for epic release. I felt so bad for Q having to see Blay and Saxton together. However, there was a moment in the story where I gained respect for Saxton. He knows that Qhuinn and Blay love each other and he accepts that his time with Blay is limited. I think I might like Saxton....a little....

Finally was Xchor and his merry bunch of killers. I smiled at the hints of his sexuality in the book. He is a character that I think I might grow to like. Now, the one thing that irritated me was how quickly he was able to forgive Payne and believe what she was saying. I guess vampires are more understanding than humans...Maybe he and Saxton can... Well, let's just imagine.

Even though this book took a different  route than I was used too, does not minimize how good I thought it was. Yes, that is my blue balls gif. That is how backed up Qhuinn is. :)

Until next time,
