The Boyfriend App

The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise

*could contain spoilers*

In The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise, super-smart, somewhat geeky Audrey McCarthy can’t wait to get out of high school. Her father’s death and the transformation of her one-time BFF, Blake Dawkins, into her worst nightmare have her longing for the new start college will bring.

But college takes money. So Audrey decides she has to win the competition for the best app designed by a high schooler—and the $200,000 that comes with it. She develops something she calls the Boyfriend App, and suddenly she’s the talk of the school and getting kissed by the hottest boys around. But can the Boyfriend App bring Audrey true love?**

Audrey is a coder, she loves her computer, even named it! When it's announced that there is a competition for designing an app for the buyPhone she is all over it. She decides that maybe there should be an app to help a girl find a boyfriend. All a girl would need to do is download the app, answer a survey and when she was within five miles of her match the app would alert her.  Oh and did I mention that she could get a 200,000 dollar scholarship. Since her dad died that money would help her go to any school she wanted to go to! One day she drops her phone and it breaks. She keeps hearing this buzzing sound. Finally she figures out its coming from her phone. She takes it home and finds out that its a buzz or a frequency that makes you feel happy or in love, like the same way your brain reacts to dopamine. Its also a feature that makes you buy more apps or music for your buyPhone.  Since her boyfriend app is kinda on the down swing she decides to try to use this for her own advantage. Boy does it work and I'm so glad this app doesn't actual exist. It would be a mad house!

I really enjoyed reading this story. I couldn't put it down and read it very fast. I thought that the areas that explained coding were a little bit to get in to. I also felt that sometimes the descriptions of the area and what was going on were too much. All in all though I would recommend this book to everyone! There is a special boy Aiden, in this story that I just loved. He was probably my favorite character! Check it out!!
