Dead Beat (The Dresden Files #7)

When a killer vampire threatens to destroy head of Special Investigations Karrin Murphy's reputation unless Harry delivers the powerful Word of Kemmler to her, he has no choice. Now Harry is in a race against time to find the Word before Chicago experiences a Halloween night to wake the dead.

The genius that is Jim Butcher continues to amaze and surprise me. Again, we find ourselves immersed in a world a dark and evil. Zombies and necromancers all around. I total course of delicious darkness. However, if you find yourself not paying attention, you will miss the point of this story or any Butcher's books. Most authors try to write a series and fail. They try to link one book to another, however, there are several unsentimental flaws.

These books are different. Everything is important. Once the reader realizes this, they can truly enjoy this series. I smiled several times, when I realized subtle comments in prior books are critical parts of the overall plot. If I was trying to write like this, I would have to have a separate long program to keep up with all the twists and turns.

We find out....

1. The Wardens...Oh the Wardens .
2, Mouse is a BEAST
3. The White Council is in trouble....
4. Vampires and Necromancers galore....Pay attention to the larger picture..
5. Bob..We see some of his past.
6. Thomas...I am really liking him.
7. Nicodemus..finds a way to get involved again.
8. We saw mamma last book, this one, we get to meet papa.
9. Mavra is back...oopps..spoiled it there.
10. Murphy finds someone...

Quotes:

“We are not going to die."

Butters stared up at me, pale, his eyes terrified. "We're not?"

No. And do you know why?" He shook his head. "Because Thomas is too pretty to die. And because I'm too stubborn to die." I hauled on the shirt even harder. "And most of all because tomorrow is Oktoberfest, Butters, and polka will never die.”

“Son. Everyone dies alone. That's what it is. It's a door. It's one person wide. When you go through it, you do it alone. But it doesn't mean you've got to be alone before you go through the door. And believe me, you aren't alone on the other side.”
