Something Real

Something Real by Heather Demetrios

There’s nothing real about reality TV.

Seventeen-year-old Bonnie™ Baker has grown up on TV—she and her twelve siblings are the stars of one-time hit reality show Baker’s Dozen. Since the show’s cancellation and the scandal surrounding it, Bonnie™ has tried to live a normal life, under the radar and out of the spotlight. But it’s about to fall apart…because Baker’s Dozen is going back on the air. Bonnie™’s mom and the show’s producers won’t let her quit and soon the life she has so carefully built for herself, with real friends (and maybe even a real boyfriend), is in danger of being destroyed by the show. Bonnie™ needs to do something drastic if her life is ever going to be her own—even if it means being more exposed than ever before.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review from NetGalley.

I can't imagine living my life in front of a camera. I also can't imagine being one of thirteen children. We're following Bonnie in this story. Bonnie comes home one day after school to see that her mom has decided that they are going to do the reality TV show Baker's Dozen again. Something that she swore they wouldn't have to do after the last time. Mom says that Bonnie doesn't know what its like to have gotten divorced and then have 13 kids to raise.

Following Bonnie as she struggles with this new show and her mom that seems to care more about what the network wants than what her kids want. Oh yeah and Bonnie is known as Chloe now.

I was totally appalled at Bonnie's mother's behavior. She was dismisses to all of Bonnie's thoughts and every time Bonnie tried to get her mother to hear her she ignored her. I understand the surrounding circumstances in which her mom acted the way she did. I was disappointed in the way everything went down in the end. Bonnie and her brother Bennett were the odd ones out and once they decided to stand up for themselves their mother just cut ties and it seems like she kept it that way.

The ending bothered me as well. I'll leave it alone though because I just don't want to spoil it for anyone. Read it and let me know what you think! Leave the author some love in the form of a review!!
