Plain Jayne

Plain Jayne by Laura Drewry

Worn out from the long drive back home, Jayne Morgan can only smirk at the irony: Of course the first person she sees from her old life is Nick Scott. Once best friends, they lost touch when Jayne left town at eighteen, but nothing could keep them apart forever. Jayne has returned to take over her grandmother’s bookstore, determined to put all her bittersweet memories and secret disappointments strictly in the past—until, that is, Nick insists she bunk at his place.

Nick never did care what people thought about having a girl for a best friend—or the “scandal” she caused by showing up to his wife’s funeral four years earlier—so he’s got no problem with the gossips now. Jayne was always the one person he could count on in his life. Now Nick is starting to realize that he never wants her to leave again . . . and that being “just friends” isn’t going to be enough anymore.**

I received this book as a ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

Jayne Morgan was going home again. Her grandmother died and left Jayne her book store.  When she left she knew she'd only be back under duress.  So now she's quit her job and is excited to start a new venture. First day back in town she sees Nick, her best friend since forever. She hasn't seen him since his wifes funeral. That was a huge disaster. Her mom was upset and it was just the wrong time to come back. Jayne never forgot that. What else she's never forgotten is how much she loves Nick. She loves loves him, and he's always just been her friend. She's never said anything because she doesn't want to mess up their friendship. So she stays quiet.

Nick is so happy his best friend Jayne has moved back home. When they find out that her grandmother had been living in a hoarders dream, he does everything in his power to make it better for her. He helps her clean it out and then helps her fix it up. He got a girlfriend, Lisa, but he's sure that she understands that Jayne needs him, so he feels ok paying attention to Jayne. He even tries to set her up on dates. Then he realizes he doesn't want Jayne to date anyone else.  He's loved Jayne for forever but it was just as friends or was it?

I really had a problem with the way Jayne thought of her self. She just thought she was plain Jayne. I didn't love Nicks mom and the way she treated Jayne either.  On the upside Jayne was a trooper, she just kept going. She met some women that she struck up a friendship with and was able to have a life without everything being about Nick.

It was a great story, watching them struggle to get back to being friends after the absence and all of the other obstacles they had. I love friends to more stories, if you do too then you won't be disappointed at all!! Check this out and leave the author some love in the form of a review!!
