City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6)

In this dazzling and long-awaited conclusion to the acclaimed Mortal Instruments series, Clary and her friends fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Clary's own brother.

Sebastian Morgenstern is on the move, systematically turning Shadowhunter against Shadowhunter. Bearing the Infernal Cup, he transforms Shadowhunters into creatures out of nightmare, tearing apart families and lovers as the ranks of his Endarkened army swell.

The embattled Shadowhunters withdraw to Idris - but not even the famed demon towers of Alicante can keep Sebastian at bay. And with the Nephilim trapped in Idris, who will guard the world against demons?

When one of the greatest betrayals the Nephilim have ever known is revealed, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon, and Alec must flee - even if their journey takes them deep into the demon realms, where no Shadowhunter has set foot before, and from which no human being has ever returned...

Love will be sacrificed and lives lost in the terrible battle for the fate of the word in the thrilling final installment of the classic urban fantasy series The Mortal Instruments!

So, there are a lot of things that I can say about this book. I had my doubts as many dystopic fantasies have been ending very suddenly and the ending have been aggravating readers. This book, however left little for the readers to be angry about.

At the end of the last book, we were left with SO many questions.

Sebastian has been the thorn that has festered and is now a raging boil. The son of Valentine has left nothing out in this book. We get to witness a plot of world destruction that leaves us screaming at parts. Not only is the Nephilim involved, but several plots with the Downworld are involved.

This book see a finality brought to the relationship of Clary and Jace. We see how Magnus and Alec turn out. The life of Clary's parents is sealed at the end. Also, in typical fashion, we are left with a few unanswered questions at the end of the book that leads us to believe that there will be more in store for the shadowhunter world.

No one is safe. Death is in this book. Several of the characters that I grew to love, met their end in this book. Those that did not die, well, some of them are changed forever.

HEA? That depends.

The ending of the book was so good. I was reminded of a meeting in France at the end of WWI. Anger and oppression will lead to another war. No matter how the shadowhunters slice it. There will be more.

Characters...

Jace...With the heavenly fire....Will he defeat Sebastian?
Clary-How will her rune power come into play?
Magnus-Will his secret life be given to Alec? Will they get back together? One can hope!
Sebastian-Is there any redemption for the son with green eyes?
Luke/Jocelyn-Will they get married? Will they survive?
Simon/Isabelle-Will the love they share blossom? How will being a vampire effect Simon? Their relationship?
Raphael-Will he come to defeat Maureen? Will he lead the children of the night?

Cassandra is able to create and expand on the universe that she has given us. The characters, along with the minor groups that have shown up in the past all play a part. Questions are answered. Lives are woven together. Families torn apart. The world as we knew it changes in this final installment of the Mortal Instruments.
