Her Backup Boyfriend

Her Backup Boyfriend by Ashlee Mallory

One little white lie leads to more than she planned…

Straight-laced lawyer Kate Matthews always plays by the rules. But when her ex gets engaged and a big promotion is on the line at work, she blurts out that she has a new boyfriend. And now that she's proved she “has a life” outside of work, everything is perfect. Except for one teeny little detail―there is no boyfriend. And now Kate's liable for her little white lie...

Dominic Sorensen is hot, charming, and very definitely not Kate's type. But not only does Dominic want to help Kate renovate her home, he's also willing to play “boyfriend.” All he wants in return is a little pro bono work for his sister. Now instead of Mr. Right, Kate has a delectable Mr. Fix-It-Right―and some unbelievable sexual chemistry. And if falling for Dominic is a breach of contract, Kate is guilty as charged...

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest opinion.

Kate is a lawyer that is a by the rules person. She has a great job and she had a boyfriend but when his family pressures him to find someone that is 'right' for him and not Kate, they break up. She's bought a house that needs a ton of work but all she does is work. When her boss approaches her and lets her know she's up for junior partner and that it would be a cinch, if only she had a life outside of the firm. That is when Kate lets it slip that she's got a boyfriend and her life is great outside of the firm. So not only has she lied that shes in a relationship she also has to find someone to fix her house that is a huge mess. Luckily her neighbor's nephew is a fit for the fixing part, and maybe the boyfriend part too.

Dominic left college when his dad got sick to help out with the family business and anything else his family may need. Now that his dad is starting to get back on his feet he doesn't have to stick around, maybe he can go back to school and finish his degree, or he can start his own restoration company. Meeting Kate, he knows she's out of his league but he can't help but feel attracted to her. He wants to help her with her house and then learns about her predicament with the boyfriend that doesn't exist, he offers to help there on the condition she help his sister nail her ex to the wall. It's a win/win for both parties, until the attraction becomes too much to ignore. Dominic can't get past her defenses and after the hurt he's suffered in his past maybe its a good thing.

This was a great book. I loved Dominic and his family. Kate was a little much sometimes but I think that it worked for the character. She was uptight but I figure that goes with being a busy lawyer. Also her ex worked in the same firm as her so did his new fiance. I do love a pretend relationship story that turns in to more. This book was easy to get in to and not want to come out of. I read it fast and was sad when it was over. Check it out!! Don't forget to leave the author some love!!
