The Best Laid Plans

The Best Laid Plans by Amy Vastine

She planned on falling in love. Just not with him!

Emma Everhart's life is going according to plan. Finish nursing school with flying colours… Check. Get a great job in the ER… Check. Marry a handsome doctor and have two babies, three years apart… Not quite yet. But with a dreamy new doctor joining the hospital staff, she's so close she can almost taste the wedding cake. Now is not the time to let the tall, dark and flirtatious paramedic Charlie Fletcher distract her! He may be the best date and best kiss she's ever had, but he's definitely not part of her plan. No matter how he makes her feel…

Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for the book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the first sister, Kendall's story and I was very much looking forward to reading about Emma. Charlie and his nicknames were something else I was looking forward too as well.

Emma has a plan, she knows exactly what she wants and what she has to do to get it. She wants love and a family and she knows that she wants to marry a doctor. Doctors know what nurses go through and will be able to understand why she puts her job first. She finally has a candidate for the husband position, a new doctor starting work in the ER. What she wasn't counting on though is her soon to be brother- in- law's best man wanting to help with the wedding, and making her want to abandon the plan. Its not the way though, she has to stick to the plan. The more time that she spends with Charlie though it becomes clear that he is more than just a funny guy.

Charlie wants to find someone to spend his life with. The moment he saw his Nightingale, aka Emma, he felt like she was the one. Just one little problem, she fights what she feels. She doesn't know what she really wants. Charlie is patient, but at the same time he doesn't know if he should wait around because he doesn't think his heart could take the pain if she doesn't come around. So he decides to help her plan the wedding and that way she'll have to spend time with him and realize they were made for each other! Spending time together does start to soften her towards him, but she doesn't know what to do.

I'm not going to lie, I will read anything this author writes. Her writing is like watching a movie and I love that. I really loved the character Charlie, he seems like a guy that I'd want to hang out with. Sweet and willing to go to extra lengths for someone he is close to. I really tolerated Emma, she did get better towards the end of the book but for the most part she seemed like it was beneath her to even think about marrying someone that wasn't a doctor. You find out later thats not what she thinks but her rigidity was off putting.  After she decided that she should follow her heart and not her plan she was so much better. I understand the reasoning behind all of her thoughts so in the end I could love her.  This was a great read and even if I didn't love all of the characters all through the book it made me feel, that is the great telling of a book. No matter what I felt and in the end it was love. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this book. As always leave the author some love in the form of a review.
