Company Ink

Company Ink by Samantha Anne

After heartbreak threw her years off track, Violet Young is finally making her dreams come true. She’s just landed a sweet position with Wynne’s Kitchen, New York City’s world-renowned bakery at Rockefeller Center.

Ben Preston rose to greatness as a general manager at one of the finest dining establishments in the Big Apple only to fall from grace when life dealt him a rough hand and his wife left him. A phone call from the hiring manager at Wynne’s Kitchen is the catalyst he needs to start over.

Sparks fly when Violet is asked to train her new boss, who stands between her and the next promotion she needs. Worse still, she and Ben must fight not to fall in love … because there’s a fine line between a delicious affair and dipping your pen in the company ink. Will Ben and Violet turn up the heat or do their careers take the cake?**

I'm a sucker for any book that's got a chef or a baker in it. I love to cook and bake so I like to read about the profession. Now this one was a little different, the characters weren't exactly cooking, Ben is a manager in the restaurant world and Violet right now is a cake decorator; although we do see her cook and bake in other aspects of the story.

Violet works for the world famous Wynne at Wynne's Kitchen as a production supervisor. She's got all kinds of talent decorating and icing cakes and she loves it. She hopes to have her own store some day and working at Wynne's will give her so much more than just experience. Having to train someone that knows nothing about the production side of the food industry is frustrating but more than that this guy acts like what they do is not important and she takes her job way to seriously.

Ben is going through a shitty time in his life. His wife, well soon to be ex-wife, is causing all kinds of problems. She left him but is bound and determined to make his life a living hell. She took all of the stuff out of their apartment and now is going after anything and everything Ben does. This job is something he needs to be able to start living a life again. He's there to make sure Wynne's Kitchen succeeds and learning how to put icing cupcakes and the like is not what he wants to be doing. The woman that is supposed to show him how is frustrating. Shes beautiful and she can't stand him. He has a bad habit of taking his moods out on her. Then something happens and they aren't fighting anymore, they're kissing and more.

I don't want to go in to details too much because this is a shorter book so if I share too much I could ruin it for you. Violet is a take charge woman, she doesn't ever take Ben's shit he dishes out and shes strong. On the flip side she can go from strong to meek and mild in the snap of your fingers. She's afraid of love and relationships but she has a good reason. Ben doesn't trust easily either. The two of them together lights sparks and sets some fires. I didn't hate the book but I wasn't overly impressed with it. Some parts just seemed like overkill. Let me know what you think. As always leave the author love in the form of a review!!
