The Beau & the Belle

The Beau & The Belle by R.S. Grey

Beau Fortier starred in most of my cringe-worthy teenage fantasies.

I met him when I was a junior in high school, a time that revolved exclusively around bad hair, failed forays into flirting, and scientific inquiries into which brand of toilet paper worked best for stuffing bras.

That is until Beau moved into the small guest house just beyond my bedroom window.

A 24-year-old law student at Tulane, Beau was as mysterious to me as second base (both in baseball and in the bedroom). He was older. Intimidating. Hot. Boys my age had chicken legs and chubby cheeks. Beau had calloused hands and a jaw cut from steel. Our interactions were scarce—mostly involving slight stalking on my end—and yet deep down, I desperately hoped he saw me as more of a potential lover than a lovesick loser.

Turns out, I was fooling myself. My fragile ego learned that lesson the hard way.

Now, ten years later, we’re both back in New Orleans, and guess who suddenly can’t take his eyes off little ol’ me.

My old friend, Mr. Fortier.

But things have changed. I’m older now—poised and confident. My ego wears a bulletproof vest. The butterflies that once filled my stomach have all perished.

When I was a teenager, Beau warned me to guard my heart.

Let’s hope he knows how to guard his.**

Beau is trying to make it through school so he can start his life. He has a specific plan and really it doesn't include law school but this degree will help him in the long run.  Moving into an apartment in the swanky area of New Orleans in the backyard of the LeBlanc family. He's not there long before a hurricane causes everyone to evacuate.

Lauren LeBlanc has a wicked crush on the college guy living in the apartment behind her parent's house. Beau is nice and handsome. She tries to get over it but it sticks. When the hurricane causes them to evacuate she ends up not being able to go back to the high school she was attending so her parents send her to a boarding school in the northeast while Beau goes to Texas to finish his degree.

Fast forward ten years and now Lauren has come home. She experienced life in the north and wants to come back to her roots and open an art studio/cafe. She doesn't expect to run into Beau but there he is at the welcome home party her parents planned and he looks as good if not better than he did ten years ago. He's a big deal now. Has money and is successful in his job. That never mattered to Lauren though that he wasn't rich, she just wanted to spend time with him. Now she's home and Preston (high school crush before Beau came into the picture) is wanting to spend time with her. Why not? Beau is willing to wait until she isn't seeing Preston anymore, but he won't make it easy for her.

I really enjoyed this book, the past, and present. I loved reading the past and getting all of the butterflies that you get when your crush talks to you or looks at you. Lauren was a typical 17-year-old girl. Beau was the hot older guy that was unattainable.  The present was a bit rushed but really they just had to get reacquainted, it didn't require the work that a brand new relationship has. They knew each other before, now was just catching up. Lauren had to decide if she wanted the same things she thought she wanted when she was 17.
