Losing J was one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with in my entire life. I miss him so much that it's hard some days to function. I'm am reading but honestly, it's a ton of novellas. They're fast and I don't have to commit too much time to them.

I apologize for leaving the blog for so long. I am going to try to ease back into getting this going again. I loved doing it but it will be a blog for the love of reading, not too many cover reveals unless it's for a book I'm looking forward to. The blog became a little too much work overtime and especially when I had to run it alone I felt like I had to have a ton of content. I want this to be fun for me instead of it being an obligation.

If you have any questions or have something you want to speak with me about of course you can comment here or email me at chillreviewsblog@gmail.com.

Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16111074876474949898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-888010575665116878.post-90761998352026136142020-04-03T21:34:00.000-04:002020-04-03T21:34:07.370-04:00Captain Heartbreaker

Captain Heartbreaker by Brighton Walsh

Adventure's in Captain Hudson Miller’s blood. For the past ten years, he's spent his days in the sky, serving as a pilot for the Army. But where adventure called him away, something—someone—else is calling him home. On post-deployment leave, he escapes to the one place he hasn’t been since he enlisted: Havenbrook, Mississippi. Hometown of his momma’s peach cobbler, enough memories to last a lifetime, and the only girl who ever left an imprint on his heart.

Mackenna Haven thought she'd have her life figured out by now. Instead, she's a twenty-seven-year-old college drop out who works at her soon-to-be brother-in-law's bar and lives on her parents' land. No husband or kids to her name. Not even a consistent weekend booty call. She's been pretending she's happy working dead-end jobs in an even deader-end town, but she can't stop thinking she was meant for more than this.

After a childhood as best friends and a single weekend exploring more, Mackenna and Hudson haven't seen each other in ten years. But they made a pact that long-ago weekend, and Hudson's coming to make good on his promise. Except she has no interest in it or him. After all, he walked away from her once already, and she's not interested in opening.**

Thank you to the author for the book in exchange for an honest review.

Mac and Hudson's chemistry leaps off the page from their first scene together in the book. They are best friends but the underlying sizzle is there in leaps and bounds.

Mac feels like her life isn't as important as her sisters, they both have partners, they have real jobs while she fills in for people and works at her future brother in laws bar. Even when people try to tell her that she's more than that she runs, she doesn't like being the center of attention.

Hudson is on leave and he's home for a short time. He can't wait to see his best friend and the woman he loves. He's talked about her so much to his friend Caleb he feels like he knows her. But can Hudson be with Mac for the time he's home and leave her again?

Hud and Mac's relationship spans their lifetime. They were friends then lovers then maybe more than that. They just fit and I love them! This series is awesome! If you haven't grabbed it you should, and leave the author love!

Thank you to the author for the book in exchange for a review. I'm incredibly thankful for the authors that, like Jessa, who have been there for me while I was navigating the new world I live in. Being there waiting for me to be ready to read.

Back to the world that Jessa creates, teachers and students. Sure it's taboo but isn't that half the fun?

Paige is out with her friend, Alex, and they play the game they always do, "Who would you?" She's not shocked by Alex's choice but her choice is. He's beautiful and way out of her league she thinks. But of everyone in the club, he's her pick. Now the rules are after you pick the person you have to make contact somehow. It can be a casual brush against them or talking to them. Alex isn't going to let it go so she has to do this. Paige generally has her nose stuck in a book, boys haven't interested her. This man, he has her enamored.

Jake is hanging out at the club, and he sees a curvy girl that snags his attention. He knows the game she's playing with her friend and he's happy to see that she chose him as her "who would you?". He picked her as his!

Names are exchanged, maybe not the correct ones but names none the less. They dance and have a good time until a fire alarm goes off and they have to make their way out of the club. Wet and cold they find Alex and she goes home with Jake. It feels like its the right decision.

I loved this book. Their passion is electric and jumps off the page. I also love that while they didn't have a conventional relationship, Jake didn't jerk her around once they were together. He was all in and Paige was the one holding back a bit.

Unicorns, and mood rings, this story has everything in it to keep you entertained. Jake and Paige have a connection and not just a physical one. You get to see the characters from the first book of this series, Mr. Marshall's Method. I don't think you have to read that before you read Professor Richter's story but I would suggest it because you'll be a little lost when they talk about Holly and Evan.

If you read this book, or really any other book, share your love for the book and the author by writing a review. It doesn't have to be a big one, just a few words and share the book on your social media.
Thank you to the author for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review.

Holly is a high school senior, she is smart and does well in school. She works hard, in school and out. She has a great group of friends, her home life sucks, her mom isn't really a mom and Holly has to make sure the bills are paid so she has somewhere to live. One day they get a new teacher at school and he is gorgeous.

This is Evans's first teaching assignment. When he sees Holly in the drama department he thinks shes another teacher and is immediately attracted to her. He finds out that she's a student and it causes a dilemma in his mind, she's 18 what could happen, they can keep it quiet.

I'll admit, I was intrigued when I read the summary for this but then I knew I'd want to read it. It was difficult sometimes for me to put myself out of the mindset of a mom of an 18-year-old, but it didn't take long for me to be fully invested in Holly and Evan the people instead of Holly and Evan the student and teacher. I think maybe the taboo of it all led me to enjoy the story. What can I say? This story is hot. These two shared a connection that nothing could stop. No matter the consequences they were meant to be and they fought for their love. I can't wait to read the next in this series!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Amanda has just recently gotten out of a relationship and she's lonely, she really thought he was going to propose but all he did was leave her for someone younger. It has caused a lot of distractions at work and so she was unprepared for a staff meeting, causing her to blurt out that there is a bear problem in Alaska and that she'd like to write about that and her partner added that maybe they could do a benefit for the area of Sitka. Amanda is gobsmacked that the idea is actually accepted and is told to run with it. So she's in Alaska for two weeks to learn as much as she can about the bear situation and perhaps she can meet the single dad in Sitka, and they can have a beneficial arrangement.

Luke is a widow, his wife died five years ago and he has been just surviving. Work, kids and all that entails is what is life is. He's fine with it, his kids are doing ok, of course, they're still devasted about their mom but they're all doing fine. When he meets the reporter from Seattle, he's suspicious but more than that he's attracted to her. Then he learns that his well-meaning sister put an ad in the paper for him, "SINGLE IN SITKA". Finding that in fact he can still be attracted to someone he tells her to set up a date. To his shock, he's face to face with Amanda, the reporter.

At first, their relationship is strictly sex, lots of it but just sex. No strings attached. How long can that last though? Relationships always come with strings, people get attached even if they don't want to.

I loved this book. It was sexy and hot, Luke and Amanda had explosive chemistry. I could see this book playing out like I was watching a movie, Katy has a way of writing the scenes so that you can picture it perfectly. I can't wait to see what comes of this new series from Katy!

Outscored by Aven Ellis

One bubbly seasonal decorator. One fiery hockey captain. And a wagon full of gnomes who play matchmaker better than Cupid …
When seasonal stylist Whitney Green heads to a Denver flea market to find gnomes for a client’s upcoming party, she thinks she has hit the jackpot when she discovers a slew of them.
Little does she know that gnomes aren’t going to be the only thing she picks up that Saturday.
When fate throws Whitney and hockey superstar Gavin Tremblay together, she finds herself questioning her policy of staying on the bench when it comes to romance. She came to the Rockies to escape the pain of a broken heart. Not to date. Especially when she knows she is due to return to Seattle in four months and she can’t figure out what went wrong in her last relationship …
The captain isn’t looking for love, either. Battered and bruised by not only a broken romance but a devastating leg injury, he’s focused on getting his game back. The last time he trusted his heart it gutted him. He refuses to go down that path again.
But the chemistry between Gavin and Whitney is too hot to deny and falling in love is the only option. However, when personal fears come to the surface and cause problems between them, can a relationship prevail? Or will defense outscore offense in this game of love?
Outscored is a laugh out loud, swoony romance with a good-boy hero and a hilarious heroine. Flamingos, gnomes, and a happily ever after are guaranteed in this book.**

Thank you to the author for sending the book to me in exchange for an honest review.

Whitney is in Boulder for work, just for a year to help set up a new office with her decorating company. She wasn't looking for any romantic relationships, her last relationship was a year ago and she's not sure she trusts herself with feelings. I mean she thought that her boyfriend was going to propose and they were going to live happily ever after. Now she meets Gavin when shes at a farmers market dragging around a wagon full of gnomes, wearing some of her downtime clothing and just in general not looking for anything but things for her clients.

Meeting Gavin stirred up feelings in her but at the end of their day he didn't ask for her number so maybe all the feelings are one-sided. Then he friends her on Connectivity and so their story really begins.

I can tell you this book gave me ALL the feels. I loved reading about Whitney and Gavin. They have their ups and downs but it really was a beautiful love story from start to finish. I love the way Aven writes she never disappoints me, the stories are always beautiful and there is always a happily ever after.

In October of 2018, my husband J was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic Esophageal cancer. He fought hard, we all fought hard but he lost his battle in February.

I haven't been in the mood to read more than a few pages of books and I let everything just go. I haven't signed up for any tours or reviews. I have a few books that have been sent to me by the authors that I need to put reviews up but they knew what my situation was and so they just wanted me to have the books because I am a fan and maybe so I could have an escape from my new reality.

Life is hard. PLEASE, if you have chronic heartburn get it checked. In all honesty, we thought we were taking care of it but clearly, we weren't watching it as closely as we should. Heartburn doesn't always lead to esophageal cancer but it can. It's always better to be safe than sorry and esophageal cancer is a silent killer. My husband was 38 years old. We had plans, we were getting ready for our son to graduate and then we would be "empty nesters". We wouldn't have to worry about him if we wanted to go somewhere for our anniversary. It's all gone. All of those plans are null now.

Hug your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you. I am lucky though, I had time to tell him over and over how much I loved him and we said everything we needed to say. I also have our son, he is a mini version of J.

I'll be trying to get things back on track but please be patient with me as I start getting back to doing this regularly.
When Stars Come Out
Scarlett St. Clair
Publication date: October 31st, 2018
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

Anora Silby can see the dead and turn spirits into gold coins, two things she would prefer to keep secret as she tries to lead a normal life at her new school. After all, she didn’t change her identity for nothing.

As it turns out, hiding her weirdness is just one of many challenges. By the end of her first day, she’s claimed the soul of a dead girl on campus and lost the coin. Turns out, the coin gives others the ability to steal souls, and when a classmate ends up dead, there’s no mistaking the murder weapon.

Navigating the loss of her Poppa, her mother’s unpredictable behavior, and Roundtable, an anonymous student gossip app threatening to expose her, are hard enough. Now she must find the person who stole her coin before more lives are lost, but that means making herself a target for the Order, an organization that governs the dead on Earth–and they want Anora and her powers for themselves.

EXCERPT:

A woman with blond hair and a pink blazer smiles at me.
“Can I help you?” Her voice sounds robotic, filtered through the round metal intercom.
“I’m new. I don’t have my schedule—”
“Oh! You must be Anora Silby!” She retrieves a folder from her desk and hands it to me via a small opening at the bottom of the glass barrier. “Inside you will find your schedule and your student handbook.”
I open the folder and stare at the materials. My schedule sits on top. I have already zoned in on my first hour: trigonometry…a.k.a. Hell.
“Be sure you are aware of curfew.”
“Oh, I don’t live on campus.”
“Curfew is countywide,” she advises. “No one’s to be outside after midnight.”
“Why?”

It takes the lady a moment to realize I’ve asked her a question. She blinks.
“It’s always been like that. Since the twenties. You know, after the murders.”
“No, actually…I don’t know,” I wave my folder around to remind her I’m the new girl.
“It’s nothing to be worried about,” the lady assures me. “There haven’t been any murders since then. The curfew’s just in place as…a precaution. It’s best if it’s obeyed.”
She says it like a warning, like she thinks I’m one to break the rules. I can understand curfew for campus, but why is it countywide?
“Would you like a guide to help you find your classes?” Her voice brightens, her smile intensifies. It looks fake, and I get the sense I’m not welcome anymore.
“Uh, sure.”
It’ll be nice to have a map of this place in case I get lost trying to avoid the dead. The lady disappears from view and I take a closer look at the pictures on the wall. I’m partly hopeful I’ll see a picture of the girl outside in one of the photos, but I don’t find her. The images are mostly of buildings on campus in their prime. Gold plates beneath the frames indicate the year they were built. My favorite is Rosewater—that sounds calming.
I run my fingers over the cold metal, tracing the name.
“You must be Anora Silby.” The voice is energetic and warm, but it startles me. I tear my hand away from the plate as if I’ve been caught stealing and yelp, twisting to find a boy standing beside me. He has striking blue eyes and sharp features. My gaze drops to his lips, which are initially pulled into a smile until I face him, then it falters.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”
I study him for a moment—lively eyes, faint color in his cheeks, and…warmth. He’s definitely alive. I guess I stare too long because he clears his throat and says, “Can I help you find your classes?”
“Oh…um…the lady was getting me a map.”
A smile stretches across his face again, brightening his expression. “I’m your map.” He extends his hand to me, keeping the other in his pocket. “Shy.”
I stare at his hand, confused—did he just call me shy?
“Excuse me?”
He chuckles under his breath. “It’s my name—Shy Savior.”

“Oh.” My cheeks flame and I want to hide. I fumble as I cradle my folder in my arm and reach for his hand. “Anora Silby…er…I guess you knew that.”
“Yeah,” he breathes, and then quickly adds, “But that’s okay. You have a nice name.”
He doesn’t move his gaze from mine as he shakes my hand firmly, and it is a little unnerving, especially since the pigment of his eyes is so concentrated—seriously, he has to be wearing contacts.
“Um, are you going to let go of my hand?”
“Sorry.” He drops my hand and snakes his behind his neck. “It’s just…have we met?”
I laugh. “No. I think I would remember you, Blue Eyes.”
Shy smiles and turns the faintest shade of pink. “You just feel so familiar.”
“I hope I’m familiar in a good way.”
God. I’d have to say that, wouldn’t I?
I’m breaking my second rule: Absolutely no boys.
“Yes.” He narrows those gorgeous eyes and my resolve weakens. “Yes, only in a good way.”
I inhale and hug myself, feeling self-conscious.
“Mr. Savior, I think it’s about time Miss Silby made it to class,” the lady in the pink blazer advises from the counter.
Shy turns and smiles at her. “Yes. Sorry, Mrs. Cole.” He looks at me, clearing his throat. “So, what’s your first class?”
I’m glad the distraction gives me a reason to look away from him because my cheeks are on fire. I open my folder to look at my schedule. I’d seen it a few minutes ago but now, I can’t remember anything.
“Um, Mr. Val, trig … in Walcourt?”
Shy laughs.
“What?” I lean away to get a good look at his face, but he just shakes his head, eyes focused on my schedule.
“Nothing—what’s your locker number?”
Forty-four.

Shy directs me out of the lobby, down a hallway flanked with a large trophy case and a couple bulletin boards covered with flyers for homecoming.

“The lockers, dorms, and cafeteria are all located here in Emerson,” he explains. “It’s a little inconvenient, but you just have to make sure you have everything you need for your first four classes before lunch,” he pauses and nods to my locker, then the one next to it. “That one’s mine.”

I smile at him and it feels like I’m falling into a trap. “I guess I’ll see more of you, then?”
“Yeah.” He grins, showing his teeth, and runs a hand through his blond hair. I like the way his eyes crinkle at the sides when he smiles, all things I shouldn’t notice about him, considering my rules. “Yeah, you will.”

My name is Tonya Clark. I live in a small town in Southern California with my amazingly supportive husband and two daughters. I fell in love with romance in the eighth grade and haven't put down books since then.
I own a hair salon, a photography business, and coach soccer, which may leave the question when do I write? It's how I relax, shutting my brain off to everything else and getting lost in the story. Believe it or not I need noise around me to write and a bowl of peanut M&Ms.

When seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher is caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen...but he is, in fact, something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she'd only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head...**

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan for the book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Luc in the original Lux series. He was a kid but something about him was just memorable. So when I saw that he was getting his own book I was down and wished for it on NetGalley and was so incredibly lucky to get it!

I don't want to tell too much about the book because its so awesome I want y'all to read it and get the full effect of the story. I will say that Luc is swoony, even if he's a bit annoying sometimes. Evie is a bit whiney but she's got a lot going on. We do get glimpses of characters from the Luxen series but I would have loved to have seen more. This is a long book but it didn't feel like it. It was amazing from start to finish and I'd love to see more from the Luxen world.
Wyoming Legend by Diana Palmer

A Wyoming rancher finds love where he least expects it in this heartwarming second-chance romance

Micah Torrance could use a helping hand. Between managing his expansive Wyoming ranch and caring for his willful little girl, Janey, Micah’s plate is more than full. Usually, it’s not in this cowboy’s nature to ask, but when beautiful Karina Carter offers her help, Micah can’t resist. With her sweet smile and her easy way with Janey, Micah wants to trust her. But he knows better than anyone that love only leads to heartbreak.

Champion ice-skater Karina Carter needs a fresh start while her body heals. Caring for little Janey is just temporary until she can get back on the ice—or so she keeps telling herself. But the longer she spends with this gorgeous single dad, the more drawn she is to him and the family they could share. Now if only she can convince him that she’s here to stay, this new life with him could be beyond her wildest dreams.**

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for the book in exchange for an honest review.

Micah just needed help with his daughter, the girl that came would do. Something about her was appealing but she was too young for him and too green for him. He fights all the pulls to be protective or even have a civil relationship.

Karina had a career-ending injury, well in her mind it was. When she was thinking about what she was going to do in her life without skating she figures she needs to get a job. When she sees an opportunity to be a nanny of sorts, to an older child, she figures it'd be perfect for her to recover and make some money.

This is a typical Diana Palmer book. Man and woman meet, man lusts after the woman but doesn't want to cave to the attraction. So he's a jerk and mean, but she still falls for him. I read Diana Palmer for the feeling of nostalgia. It never disappoints!
EXCERPT:

It only took a few minutes before Fe was back and for Elliot to realize she had absolutely no clue how much he bench-pressed. She brought him the wrong size. In fact, she brought him shirts so small, he was pretty sure it would fit a juvenile boy. Elliot was a man, a six-foot-two, two-hundred-pound man, and there was no way these suckers were going to fit him. “Wrong size,” he said, throwing the shirts back over the door. “I need an extra-large.” He flexed his chest in front of the mirror to prove his point. Did she not see this? Did she not notice these weapons of mass destruction?
The shirt came flying back over the stall, the hanger barely missing his head by a fraction. “You wear a medium. Put it on.”
He opened the stall door, not caring he wore no shirt, and flashed her a free sample of the gun show. “Fe, come on? Are you serious?”
She smirked a little, her dimple taunting him. “Your clothes are too big, Elli. That’s part of the problem.”
He raised a brow. “This,” he argued, grabbing the shirt from its hanger, “won’t fit over my right bicep.”
She laughed, in a way too amused sort of way, then came forward, took hold of the door handle, and closed it. “Put. It. On.”
So, he did. And it wasn’t easy. It was sort of like squeezing a python into a hamster hole. But he put it on to appease her, opened the door, and found Fe, immediately covering her mouth to suppress laughter. She eyed him up and down, did the little twirl thing with her finger again, and he turned happily, because she was smiling again—and he’d do anything to make her smile.
The shirt was white, almost see through because the fabric was pulled so taught, and the sleeves were wrapped around his arms like the casing of a sausage. When he made it full circle, he found her eyes locked on the band of skin right above his waistline. The shirt was a good four inches too short, leaving his belly button, and happy trail completely exposed. He didn’t even know if she was aware what she was looking at, because she seemed as though she was in a trance. But there was no mistaking it—she was staring right there, her hazel-green eyes, like a wheat field hanging on to the barest amount of spring, stuck just a fraction of an inch above his zipper.
His mighty soldier inched toward a salute, and he turned toward the mirror. “I told you it wouldn’t fit,” he said gruffly, then closed his eyes and forcibly cleared his throat.
God damn it! Why did this happening to him? At the worst possible time? He began saying Hail Mary’s in his head and tried to calm himself down.
It wasn’t working.
“I’ll go get you a large,” Fe whispered, closing the door quietly behind her.
Good. He thought. Good.
Taylor is mom of three young (or not so young) children she loves more than life. She runs them around endlessly, hoping she looks presentable enough to be out in public, and day dreams about fictional characters. EXCERPT:

A trail of blood disappeared beyond the door of the small foyer. The man Nori rescued lay face-up, the knot near his temple swelling fast. His leg oozed blood, the scarlet pool closing in on the tiny corner of space Nori occupied. When she found the wound—and the gaping tear in his leather riding pants—dread settled in her gut. The bleeding would have to be stopped if he was going to survive, which meant she had to do it.
Nori groaned and scrubbed her eyes, then set to work. She sifted through her backpack for something to tie around his wound, finding both a pocketknife and the thick, sun-blocking canvas she always kept nearby. She ripped a long strip of the fabric and wrapped it several times around the man’s injured thigh.
“Probably a good thing you can’t feel this,” she said to his unconscious form and, catching another look at the knot on his head, grimaced. “You’re gonna have a pretty bad headache, too.”
After tying the two ends together, Nori sat back to admire her work. Blood had soaked through most of the bandage, but it wasn’t seeping onto the floor anymore, at least.
Mom and Dad are probably freaking out by now, Nori thought. Curled in the corner of the foyer farthest from the man, she sat with arms wrapped around bent knees. The man outside hadn’t made a sound. Maybe he hadn’t seen her. Maybe he’d left. Or maybe he was waiting just outside the door.
Nori rocked back and forth, forehead pressed to her knees. Finally, she let out a long breath and stretched her legs. She was leaving. She’d saved the stranger. Twice. He was hidden in the foyer, and when he came to, he could find his own way back to safety.
Bracing herself on the wall to stand, she kept as far as possible from the unconscious body between her and the door. Stretching over him to reach the door, she extended one leg, straddling him only a moment until she lifted the other to join it. But as she raised her back foot, the front one was knocked from under her, sending her roughly down onto her butt. She yelped and looked wildly around, scurrying back to the foyer wall. Hands in front of her face, she prepared to defend herself as best she could.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” he said. His voice was deep, but not threatening. “Where are we?”
Nori flattened her palms to the wall, pushing herself against it to stand again. She didn’t answer.
The steely eyes from the alley focused on her face. He surveyed her hair, her shoes, and her clothes before finding her eyes.
“What did you throw?” he asked.
The question caught her off guard. “Wh-what?”
“What did you throw? To distract him?”
“A book.”
“A book?”
Nori nodded as she edged toward the door—and the street.
“What were you doing with a book?” he asked.
“Reading,” she said, pinning him with a look that seriously doubted his intelligence.
Dark eyebrows lowered over narrowed eyes. “In the dark?”
Nori bit the inside of her cheek. “Of course not,” she said. She’d been running in the dark, not reading, though she often did. But he didn’t have to know that. “It was in my backpack from earlier today.”
He squinted, as if he didn’t quite believe her. “What happened to your face?”
She reflexively touched the pink patches, a fresh new layer where sun-damaged skin had peeled away. The pink was fading, but not entirely healed.
“Sunburn,” she said. “Stayed out too long.”
“That happen a lot?”
“What business is it of yours?” she snapped. “And you can say ‘thanks for saving me’ anytime.”
His eyes shot down for a moment before he lifted them to meet her gaze. “Thank you.” His voice was quieter, sincere. “I know you put your own life at risk. Thank you for saving me.”
“Twice,” she said. “I saved you twice. Once with the book, and the other by hauling you in here when you were unconscious to bandage your leg. Technically, I guess that’s three times.”
“All right.” His lips twitched. “I owe you one. Or three.” As if he hadn’t noticed it before, he looked down at his thigh and then back to Nori. “First time to make a tourniquet?”
She lifted her head. “You were bleeding all over the floor. I did the best I could with what I had. What happened to you, anyway? You must’ve lost a lot of blood to pass out like that.”
“I tried to clear a chain-link fence, but my leg caught.”
Nori looked at the bandage again, but quickly averted her eyes from the exposed skin of his thigh. She cleared her throat. “Why was he chasing you?”
He shrugged.
“You’re not going to tell me?” she asked.
He shook his head, all nonchalance.
“Fine.” Nori huffed a breath. “What’s your name?”
“Cooper.”
“That your first name?” She asked and extended her arm toward the door handle, making sure she could escape if necessary.
“It’s what people call me,” he said. “What’s yours?”
She didn’t answer as manners battled with self-preservation in her brain.
“Oh, come on,” he goaded. “You can’t ask to see mine and not show me yours.”
“Nori,” she said quick and low. The concession pained her.
“That your first name?” he shot back.
She scowled, and he threw up his hands in defense. “Okay, okay. I’m just messing with you. Anyway, thanks again for the help, Dory.”
“It’s Nori.”
Cooper nodded, an amused smirk tightening his lips. “Thanks, Nori.” He rose slowly, hopping on one foot at first, and reached for his backpack in the corner. As he slipped it over a shoulder, he stopped and caught her gaze again. “Why’d you help me—three times? You didn’t have to.”
“I did have to,” she said. The answer came easily. “You were in trouble, and I could help. No brainer.”
“Kindness is not so common as you think,” he said lifting his chin and narrowing his eyes as if trying to get a better read on her. “How long have you been like this?”
“Like what?”
“You burn easy. And you can see well in the dark, right?”
“I’ve been this way my whole life.” The answer was smooth, and without thought. Nori gasped and balled her fists when she realized what she’d revealed. Her condition wasn’t a secret, though it was a mystery. But she didn’t like a stranger knowing so much about her. And she hated that he’d gotten her to talk so easily. Her teeth creaked under the pressure of her jaws.
“Anyone else up here like you?” Cooper closed the distance between them and searched her eyes for an answer. “You know anyone else who burns like you do? Who can see better in the dark?”
She shook her head, blinking in incomprehension. “How do you… What do you mean? What do you know about it?”
“You should go,” he said and pushed open the door.
“No.” Nori pulled the door shut, her heart thundering in her chest. “Tell me how you knew to ask those questions. Do you know someone else like me?”
Cooper let out a long breath, his wary gaze never leaving hers. “It’ll be light soon,” he finally said. “If you want to make it home in time, you’ll already have to run like hell.”
He turned to open the door again, but Nori stopped him. “Wait.” She fumbled for something to say. “Do you live around here?” She threw on her own backpack, wishing to know something about the man who knew so much about her.
“Right under your nose,” he said, and with one last nod, ran from the foyer, into the dark alley, and out of sight with no noticeable limp.
As Nori watched him go the shadows changed, and her heart seized. The sun was on the rise. “Stupid,” she told herself, racing home on shaky legs. “Stupid, stupid, stupid.”

Sourpuss is a blistering satire of the depraved and entitled culture that pervades college campuses.

Mallory Wahl loathes the campus party scene . . .

She’s sprinting through her senior year obsessed with winning a spot on the US Olympic track team. But she runs straight into a hurdle in the form of fraternity president Graham Patterson, an intern assigned to help her recover from an injury – one she blames on him.

Once Graham’s therapies begin to work, Mallory pretends to fall in love but traps herself in her own scheme and tailspins deep into his debauched world. When a scandal erupts which threatens to shatter her Olympic dreams once and for all, Mallory must finally face the dark truth she’s been running from since freshman year.

In the style of a ’90s dark comedy flick, Merricat Mulwray’s debut brings an insightful and humorous perspective to the reckless behavior college students perpetually get away with. Mallory, herself a flawed heroine, is backed by a self-serving cast of athletes, party girls, townies, and fraternity brothers so hilariously dark that the book will leave you wondering if anyone ever gets what they deserve.

Rose
Sometimes life rears its ugly head and messes up your world.
I know too well. It happened to me five years ago when I lost my fiancé.
It took me awhile to get back on my feet, but I finally got my life in order.
Don’t commit. Don’t get attached. Guard your heart.
Seemed plausible…until a tall, dark and gorgeous man commands my attention.
He is the worst kind of temptation.
Funny, charming, and did I mention hot?
Every woman’s fantasy.
A professional baseball player.
Suit up heart because I have no desire to become one of his stats.
John
Sometimes life drops a little miracle right in front of you.
In the form of a beautiful goddess.
Who’s also intelligent.
Snarky.
Oh, and doesn’t fall for my bullshit.
In fact, I don’t even think she likes me.
That’s okay.
I’m an athlete, and I’m used to challenges.
You don’t make it as far as I have in my sport without having goals in mind.
I’ll pursue her like I’m pursuing the MVP award this season.
And, I will conquer.

The Bottom Line by Aven Ellis

After landing her dream job as an assistant buyer for a luxury fashion retailer in Minneapolis, Taylor Hartigan’s life becomes a nightmare. Performing mundane tasks and catering to the ridiculous whims of the boss from hell, she sees no opportunity for advancement. Though she’s never quit anything in her life, Taylor walks out and heads home to Chicago, the city that holds her heart. With her confidence shaken and no job on the horizon, she knows she has to find herself again.

Once she arrives, she’s shocked to learn hockey player Hunter Riley has been traded to the Chicago Buffaloes. Taylor met Hunter the previous season when his hard-hitting play broke the glass in front of her. Meeting him after the game, something passed between them—and has stayed with her ever since. Since she’s followed his career, she knows he’s coming off a disastrous season in Houston and must rediscover his game in Chicago—or face losing his hockey dream.

The timing couldn’t be worse for the pair to become involved since they’re both at a crossroads but the chemistry between them can’t be denied. Taylor worries that their budding relationship won’t survive the challenges of rebuilding two broken careers. Can the new versions of themselves fit together? Or tear them apart?

Or will love be the bottom line, after all?**

Thank you to the author for always wanting me to read your words.

So we met Taylor in another book and I couldn't wait to read her story. Taylor thought for her whole life that she wanted to be a fashion retailer, be the on the first line of deciding what stores would sell, and be the trend for the season, too bad all she does if fetch coffee for her horrible boss and spend most of her day tracking down things for said horrible boss. Well, Taylor has had enough, she misses home and the longer she works this job the more she realizes that she's not going to go anywhere in this company. Her boss just doesn't want to nurture anything good from Taylor and so one day she's had enough, she quits and flies home to spend the evening with her girls.

After her impromptu trip home she has to go back to Minneapolis and pack up her apartment and drive home but while she was in Chicago, she found out that Hunter Riley was traded to the Buffaloes and after they met over a year ago, she had to admit the timing was perfect with them both in the same city. Although what she needs right now is to focus on her life and finding a job, not a romance. It won't hurt to spend some time with Hunter though. The more time they spend together the more she wants to spend with him. Life is not all roses and sunshine, what life is?

They're young and make assumptions, well Hunter does and it almost derails their love story. But as with all Aven stories, love always wins. I loved Hunter and Taylor, I mean I knew I would but I just loved getting to read their love story and the whys and hows on how they got to their very own happily ever after. I don't watch much hockey but when I read any of Aven's books with hockey boys in it I can appreciate it. I loved that we got a glimpse at the other characters from this series, I always get excited to see favorite characters! Go and get this one, you won't regret it. If you've not read the others in the series, its not required but you'll be asking some questions about others in the book.
And elsewhere in my body, I clench hard, willing those deep-set tremors not to start up again right now. I want to believe what Gus has told me—that liking and wanting a man isn’t wrong—but it’s new to me, and I need a little time to reconcile my desire and conscience together.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">His chuckle is soft and low beside me, and maybe I’m wicked for not feeling more guilty, but I feel my smile grow as I trace Orion’s belt. I don’t dare look at him, but I feel him step closer to me, the warmth of his chest radiating against my back. If I moved slightly, one step even, his body would be flush against mine, and the shiver down my arms has nothing to do with the night chill. I want him to touch me, but I know he won’t.

And elsewhere in my body, I clench hard, willing those deep-set tremors not to start up again right now. I want to believe what Gus has told me—that liking and wanting a man isn’t wrong—but it’s new to me, and I need a little time to reconcile my desire and conscience together.

I don’t dare look at him, but I feel him step closer to me, the warmth of his chest radiating against my back. If I moved slightly, one step even, his body would be flush against mine, and the shiver down my arms has nothing to do with the night chill. I want him to touch me, but I know he won’t.

Thank you to the tour company, Give Me Books Promotion, for the book to review!

I don't even know where to start. This book grabs you from the very beginning. You're immediately sucked into the world that Katy created. Ashley is attending the funeral of Tig, her mother in private, but to the world, she's her little sister. Her life has always been upside down, her mother was a drug addict and liked to party. Something was always going on. Then her mother met and married an older man, in the span of a month. She was put into a Catholic school and lived there, had only been home on holidays and summer vacation. She loved her school, the nuns and the people became her family. Now she's almost graduated and the will reading says that she's going to go back to Mosier's home. It doesn't seem right, it doesn't seem normal. He pretty much confirms it when he tells her he expects her to marry him and bear his children. She doesn't want that, she says as much, but he will not take no for an answer, he married her mother specifically for her, when she was old enough to be his.

Ashley doesn't know what is going on, where she can go or what she can do. She talks to Father Joseph at school and he says he'll speak to her step-father about it. He sends her to stay with her godfather Gus. She loves Gus and spending time with him will soothe her soul that is hurting right now. Gus and his partner Jock put her up in a home Jock owns. There is already a tenant, so she's sharing the house with him. He's not the most friendly person, so Ashley just sticks to herself, cooks food and reads. Hoping eventually he'll come around and see that she's a nice and good person.

This book hits you in the feels. Ashley is so naive and doesn't understand the world, but at the same time she's seen so much and lived so much. Living with Nuns for the better part of her life she has learned to live her life that way. Julian shows her that she can be who she wants and doesn't have to please anyone but herself. Their love is pure and sweet. I couldn't stand Mosier and his twins, they were gross and creepy!

If you've not gotten this book, which is out NOW, you should go grab it. As with all of Katy's fairytales they're not your average fairytales, they're just a little bit more. They're amazing!

Montana Dreams
Kim Law
(The Wildes of Birch Bay #4)
Published by: Montlake Romance
Publication date: September 25th, 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Sometimes dreams change…and sometimes it takes a dream reader to make it happen.
When Jaden Wilde’s girlfriend turns down his marriage proposal just months before he receives his master’s in counseling, he’s convinced that it’s cold feet. Until he learns that her no came at the advice of a new age “dream reader.” But Arsula’s hardly the woo-woo hippie his scholarly mind imagined. She’s charming, smart, and uncannily perceptive. And before long, he’s drawn to her—despite his ongoing skepticism for how her practice works.
Arsula’s intuitions led her to Birch Bay not to guide Jaden’s girlfriend—but to guide him to his best life possible. As the odd one out in an unsupportive family, Arsula can relate to the struggle to find one’s path, and she wants to see Jaden with the woman of his dreams. Although she’s cautious of being the rebound girl, what she’s starting to feel for him is too real to ignore.
When Jaden’s own volatile family issues come to a head and his doubts are made resoundingly clear, Arsula worries she’s misread the signs. Maybe they’re all wrong for each other. Maybe he should be with his ex. She’s supported him, but if he can’t believe in her, how will they ever find out if they’re truly meant to be?

EXCERPT:

The ringing of a bell interrupted her thoughts, and when she realized it was coming from directly below the open door, she rose and crossed the room. Standing at the bottom of the stairs, with a light now shining in the stairwell, was Jaden, dressed in a pair of black slacks she hadn’t seen before—split at the knee to accommodate the cast—a white button-down shirt, and no expression on his face whatsoever.
The bell kept ringing.
“I take it you need something?” She rested her shoulder against the doorframe and shot him a sarcastic look.
“I do.”
“Is that so?” She highly doubted it. She made a show of angling her head in both directions as if checking to see that nothing looked out of place. “You don’t look to be in pain of any sort.”
He rang the bell harder, but his lack of expression didn’t change.
“Jaden,” she finally yelled out, and his hand quit moving. “I’m busy up here.” She thought about the website and had the idea to show it to him. Would that help him to see that she wasn’t just a flake?
Did she really care what he thought about her?
She did.
And for some reason, the idea of showing it to him excited her.
The bell started up again, before she could make up her mind to grab the laptop and take it down to him, and as the noise clanged louder, Jaden’s expression went from nonexistent to one of mulish intent. He clearly intended to keep ringing the blasted thing until she went down there.
“Stop ringing that bell!” Though she hadn’t heard the noise in days, he’d rung it enough the first couple of weeks to make her regret ever giving it to him. And at the moment, she regretted forgetting to take it away.
“Then come down here and see what I want,” he yelled back.
“You don’t need anything!”
The noise stopped so abruptly that she weaved in place, suddenly off balance. “But I do,” he told her, and this time his tone was sincere.
No way was she misinterpreting the need reflecting back at her.
Say it, she silently urged. Too proud to beg out loud. Do something.
“What do you want, Finn?” she repeated.
Please.
He tipped his head down, though his gaze remained on her, but the light in those blue depths shifted, turning from banked need, held ruthlessly in check, to a possessiveness that drew her body into aching awareness.
He pulled lightly on her wrist, drawing her across what had been an impassable chasm of space, until she was flush against his hard body. His other hand came under the fall of her hair to rest against her neck.
She didn’t look away, not even as he lowered his head, his movement agonizingly slow. His mouth only a whisper from hers, he stopped.
“You,” he said. “I want you.”
Finally. She had no idea if she closed the distanced between their lips or if he did. She only knew that she was getting exactly what she wanted.
Sensation forced her eyes closed as the heat of him seeped into her skin, her body flushing with it, swamping her senses. Their tongues tangled, his mouth hard and urgent against hers, like he couldn’t get enough, like he needed to possess her. The speed of her body’s reaction was so fast, so immediate, that she went dizzy with the need, like looking over the edge of a terrifying drop.
She was too out of her element, too out of control, but she didn’t want to stop. She wanted more.
He released her wrist, wrapping his arm around her waist, her softness yielding to his hard body as he held her closer. At the same time, he loosened his grip on her neck, brushing over the sensitive skin at her nape with his fingers.
Shards of electricity zapped from that simple touch directly to her core, which throbbed in response. At the same time, warmth from that touch spread through her on a wave of a feeling akin to total acceptance. Like this was where she was supposed to be. A low moan dragged from her mouth as he lifted her, just enough that it put him in complete control. He slipped a thigh between her legs, then pressed her down.
Holy hell.
Delaney leaned into him, her body softening into his, attuned to what his wicked hands and lips were doing to her even as her heart beat fast has hummingbird’s wings just to be in his arms. She arched into him, moving against him with a moan.
His hand slid under her shirt and he brushed against the sensitive flesh at her waist, his skin warm against hers. Which only made her want more skin.
With eager hands, she tugged at his black t-shirt, breaking their kisses only long enough to pull it over his head. Then she allowed her hands to roam, to feel the rigid strength in his body, loving the heat of him, the bourbon and Coke smell of him.
A shudder shook his body. “I want you.” He paused, then said something else under his breath. Something like, “More than I should let myself.” But then his lips were back on hers, addling her senses and taking over her mind.
A bellow rent the air and jerked Delaney out of the oblivion of pleasure where she floated. She snapped her head up, breaking the kiss to listen. Another sound that she could only classify as a roar broke the stillness.
“What was that?” she asked. Fear, rather than need, had her heart tripping over itself inside her chest. “It sounds like a…wounded animal.”
Finn gave a low rumble that sounded more like a warning growl than anything a human would make, and her heart slammed into high gear. Slowly, dread pulling at her, she turned her head to look directly at him.
To encounter eyes ablaze. Not figuratively. Literally ablaze. Blue flames consumed his irises.
What the hell? Panic spiked inside her, and her breath came out in short, sharp bursts, speeding up as she absorbed what she was seeing.
Adrenaline joined the fear and she shoved his chest. Hard.
She must’ve surprised him, because Finn released her, stumbling back a few paces. She managed to keep her feet under her, then scrambled back, trying not to trip over any rocks in her path.
He held up his hands. “Delaney, don’t—”
She did the only thing she could. She ran.
My cock pressed against the inside of my jeans, hard as rock.
This was the first time I’d seen her. Hadn’t even spoken yet.
My new next-door neighbor balanced on the top rung of a rickety wooden ladder and fiddled with one of the eaves on the Starr house. Adorable squeaks and grunts escaped her—didn’t help the growing ‘situation’ downstairs—and her long dark hair swayed with each tug.
She was in cutoff jeans, her tan legs long and shapely, her ass—fuck it, ‘dat ass’—was priceless. A work of fucking art. Her skin glowed and glistened with sweat in the Louisiana summer sunshine.
What are you, a goddamn perv? So much for the friendly neighborhood doctor gig. Damn, boy, relax.
I readjusted the situation downstairs, my curiosity growing faster than my dick, and walked toward the front gate that hung on one hinge.
