Wind Chime Summer

Wind Chime Summer by Sophie Moss

Since leaving the Army six months ago, Izzy Rivera has closed herself off from everyone and everything. Struggling with a debilitating case of PTSD, she has been fired from three jobs and was recently arrested for assault. Her last hope is a rehab program for veterans on Heron Island, which she was admitted to on a probationary basis and which she must complete to stay out of jail.

After establishing an illustrious career as a marine biologist, Ryan Callahan has returned to Heron Island to open a nonprofit to save the Chesapeake Bay and help his father—a fourth-generation waterman—expand his oyster farm. As one of the primary employers for the veterans’ center, Ryan is counting on his new workforce to make the merging of these two operations a success.

But Ryan underestimated the challenges of employing a group of physically and psychologically wounded veterans—particularly the female Army veteran who wants nothing to do with his nonprofit, his father’s farm, or the peaceful island that’s supposed to help her heal. Can Ryan find a way to convince Izzy to believe in something again? Or will the shell she’s built around her heart trap her in the past forever?**

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.  Thanks again!!

I read the first two books of this series as a rec from a friend on twitter. I needed something that was an easy read. Sure there is angst but its not all angst and its not all fluff. It touched on real subjects that are in life. Now we're back in the Chesapeake Bay and we get to see all of the original characters and meet some new ones!

Izzy doesn't want to be here in this program for veterans but its her last choice and she needs to succeed at it. The hard part is that she has to be around people, strangers. She has secrets and she just wants to be left alone. She doesn't believe that this program isn't going to help her but she has to be there. She didn't expect to actually start caring, about the people, about the bay, really about anything.

Ryan is home and starting to work with the veterans in the program ran by his friends. He wonders if maybe he's in over his head especially since he's working on his nonprofit and getting the oyster farm going and profitable. Something about the quiet, standoffish woman that is assigned to work at the farm stirs something in him.

I so enjoyed this book. Getting to know all the new characters and getting to see the old ones. It's always amazing to me when an author can transport you into their world. The author shows you how they see things and I felt like I could see the Chesapeake Bay, the characters, and the cafe. I loved it and raced through the book. I immediately felt sad that it was over.  Have you read any of the others in this series? If so let me know what you think and leave a review, it shows the author you care!!
