Squeeze Play by Aven Ellis
Full of enthusiasm, recent college graduate Hayley Carter is thrilled to be working for a non-profit organization in Washington, DC. Having spent most of her life in the background due to family circumstances, Hayley is eager to step up and be heard—and bring much-needed change to her new organization. Romance is on the shelf because now is the time to focus on herself and new career. Armed with a self-help book guaranteed to improve her personal and professional life, Hayley is ready to become the best version of herself.
But will a baseball player for the Washington Soaring Eagles challenge her thoughts about dating and the person she thinks she needs to be?
Brody Jensen is the new catcher for the professional team in DC. Baseball means everything to Brody and was his salvation growing up. Brody intends to make the most of his full-time shot behind the plate. Which means no serious relationships.
However, when a chance encounter leads him to Hayley, Brody finds himself wanting to know all about the beautiful blonde who has engaged him from the moment he spotted her. Together, they find themselves questioning the ideals they had set for not only relationships but themselves, too.
When the cherry blossoms bloom in the nation's capital, Cupid puts a squeeze play on Hayley and Brody. Will they be brave enough to love themselves and each other? Will love be called out? Or will their relationship be safe at home?**
Thanks to the author for the book in exchange for an honest review. I am so thankful for her sharing her words with me. I have to admit something, I did get this book as an ARC but because of our moving situation, I was unable to review it when it was released. Aven knew what was going on and still sent me this book and I love her for it. On to the review!!
Becoming a grown-up adult is tough stuff. You remember, trying to adult everything but really wondering if your failing miserably. You have to wear the right clothes and say the right things, eat right and exercise. It's exhausting but Hayley is excited to be in the real world, having just graduated from college and now working for a non-profit, she's living her dream. She is going to start things out right, she has a plan and it doesn't include a man. Well, it does but one that older and more mature than someone her own age. On her very first day of work, she stops at a local coffee shop to order something to give her a boost and she spills her drink all over a young handsome man. She clicks with him but he's her age or close to it and while she's attracted to him she's not going to pursue it. She gives him her email address to send her a bill for the cleaning of his clothes and goes on her way. Then she sees him on her tv, on the baseball game her bestie/roommate is watching.
Brody is new to town and he meets this girl that has him enamored. What's great about her is she doesn't seem to know who he is. It's refreshing. He wanted to see her again so he used her email address. And the rest is history as they say.
I mean seriously these two are so swoon-worthy. I loved that while Hayley thought she knew what she wanted in life she saw the opportunity of finding real love no matter what his age was. She didn't lose herself either like she had in the past. She had things going on in her work life and she powered through. Baseball was Brody's life and she knew nothing about it, but she learned some things so she could be apart of his life. I loved these two, they had bumps but knew in the end that they wanted to be together. Life has bumps in the road it's all about how you navigate them. Aven never lets us down, she gave us love, laughter and a happily ever after.
