Lucky in Love by Kasie West
Can’t buy me love…
Maddie’s not impulsive. She’s all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment—
She wins!
In a flash, Maddie’s life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she’s talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun…until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now Maddie isn’t sure who she can trust.
Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn’t seem aware of Maddie’s big news. And, for some reason, she doesn’t want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?**
Maddie is a normal teenager, she goes to school and does her best. She's in her last year but doesn't really know what she's going to do about college. Her dad lost his job and hasn't found one, she has to do well in school so she can get scholarships. On the night of her 18th birthday, she was supposed to have her friends over, but they stood her up. So she goes to a gas station to get something and on a whim gets a lottery ticket. She doesn't really believe that she'd win and she really thinks its a waste of money but one time won't hurt. Of course, it doesn't hurt at all, she WINS!!
Now she has people coming out of the woodwork to be Maddie's friend. The most popular kids in school want to be her friend, she's spending money and having a good time but she's not spending time with her best friends. Has the money changed her?
Maddie has to learn who is talking to her for all the wrong reasons and if the boy, who doesn't seem to know about her big win is interested in her for real.
I can't imagine being 18 and winning the lottery. People take advantage of older people that win, someone so young is a target. I loved that while Maddie was trusting she learned fast that not everyone is out for her best interests. Kasie West writes a great story, it just seems to leap off the page and pull you in. I love her books! Have you read her books?
