City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1)

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end

(goodreads summary)

I saw the preview of this movie while watching Breaking Dawn 2 and was hooked. I thought, "if the imagery on screen was this good, then how could the book not be amazing?"

Boy was I taken for a ride. There is so much in this book that I want to screen in prose, but I am containing my excitement right now!

We are taken on a journey of a girl Clary as she is thrust into the world of the Shadowhunters. Here she meets an unlikely group of protagonists that are a good mixture of social norms.

Jace, the boy with a dark past. His only goal in life is to kill demons and protect the law of the Clave.

Isabelle, the gorgeous girl with inky black hair and a horrible taste for cooking.

Alec, Isabelle's brother with a dark secret of his own. One, that he fears could shatter the friendship he has developed with Jace.

Simon, Clary's best friend that is hiding is own affections deep in his own world.

All five of these teens are thrown into a world of murder, surprises, and shocking revelations that will leave the best of readers in awe.

I hope you give this little story a chance as I am SO glad I did!!

Until next time,

Jay
