Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl #1)

Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a millionaire, a genius—and, above all, a criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the fairies of bedtime stories—they're dangerous! Full of unexpected twists and turns, Artemis Fowl is a riveting, magical adventure.

I have to admit that I am a sucker for a good YA book. I love Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, so one would assume that I would love Artemis Fowl. A story about a boy criminal genius, hell bent on regaining his families wealth by exploiting faeries. What is not to love?

Here is what popped in my mind.....

There is so much fluff in this story and if the author was not pointing to a younger audience, I could see this series going in so many places for an adult audience.

Artemis is twelve. Butler and his sister Juliette are trained killers and loyal to death on the protection of your Artemis. Caption Holly Short and her band of LEP agents. Most of the LEP agents are colorful and very cleverly written.

I am not going to give the story away. I will tell you a few things..

1. A story full of trickery.
2. Even fool proof plans are subject to unforeseen results.
3. No matter the intentions on pure selflessness, a spark of humanity might poke through.
4. All preconceived notions of what a goblin, elf, or other fey look like, you are wrong!

I hope that you give this book and it sequels a try, as I am over half way through the second. These are quick, fun reads. They serve the purpose of a relaxing read.

See you next time!!
