The Atlantis Complex (Artemis Fowl #7)

Artemis has committed his entire fortune to a project he believes will save the planet and its inhabitants, both human and fairy. Can it be true? Has goodness taken hold of the world’s greatest teenage criminal mastermind?

Captain Holly Short is unconvinced, and discovers that Artemis is suffering from Atlantis Complex, a psychosis common among guilt-ridden fairies -- not humans -- and most likely triggered by Artemis’s dabbling with fairy magic. Symptoms include obsessive-compulsive behavior, paranoia, multiple personality disorder and, in extreme cases, embarrassing professions of love to a certain feisty LEPrecon fairy.

Unfortunately, Atlantis Complex has struck at the worst possible time. A deadly foe from Holly’s past is intent on destroying the actual city of Atlantis. Can Artemis escape the confines of his mind -- and the grips of a giant squid -- in time to save the underwater metropolis and its fairy inhabitants?

In this next to last edition of Eoin's classic adventure, we find out that Artemis has found a way to stop global warming all the while fighting an OCD disease dubbed the Atlantis Complex. He calls a meeting of the top fey leaders and presents his latest invention, the Ice Cube. Foaly and Holly notice that during his presentation that he is counting in patterns of five, organizing everyone by height. Artemis is hanging on by a thread.

With the presentation of the Ice Cube, an unknown UFO appears and during the scuffle, Commander Vinyaya is killed and Artemis is lost in delusion and Holly has to shoot a hole in the roof to save him.

Meanwhile, Butler is tricked in going to Cancun where his sister Juliet is a wrestler. Artemis does not trust him. While in Mexico, the pair is attacked and saved by Mulch. It is revealed that an interesting character is to blame.

Artemis has an alterego, Orion, a carefree spirit. He professes his love for Holly and has no care for the problem that is in front of them. It is quickly realized that Atlantis is under attack from the mysterious probe that attacked the group before.

We are taken through a scheme that involves Number 1, a giant squid an attempt to reverse aging. All the while, Artemis/Orion struggle with reality.

The story ends with Artemis undergoing therapy for the guilt of his prior crimes in Atlantis.

I cannot wait to see how this story ends....I am sure Opal Kobi has something to say about all this fun!

Until Next time,
