Invincible (Chronicles of Nick #2)

Nick Gautier’s day just keeps getting better and better. Yeah, he survived the zombie attacks, only to wake up and find himself enslaved to a world of shapeshifters and demons out to claim his soul.

His new principal thinks he’s even more of a hoodlum than the last one, his coach is trying to recruit him to things he can’t even mention and the girl he’s not seeing, but is, has secrets that terrify him.

But more than that, he’s being groomed by the darkest of powers and if he doesn’t learn how to raise the dead by the end of the week, he will become one of them...

This is the first book that I have read that picks up literally, right of the ending of the first. We left Nick in Kyran's home after the zombie attack they survived. Nick's life is about to get harder. The force of evil are testing Nick in ways that no one could imagine.

We meet a cast of characters that will make you smile, scream and speechless at the same time.

Each side tries to teach Nick his powers for their own purposes. We learn that Nick has no choice, he has to accept his role in the destiny of things, however, how he uses his powers is his choice and that is the key to everything.

Caleb, tries to teach him the basic power of perception. (spelled differently in book, but basically the same thing). He gives his a pendant and a grimoire that will show his the truth and answer questions at the same time. Caleb is trying to teach him how to see through the veil that is hiding the supernatural from everyone.

However, I cannot help but wonder when Caleb's true intentions will be relieved. I thought this would happen when the pendant that Ash gave him glowed red hot. Sherrilyn does a great job masking her intentions with characters. This is one of the things that grabbed my interest.

Grim, an interesting sarcastic little ass that is death in his truest form. He tries to teach Nick powers for the dark side lol. His best friend Wynter, well she has her own plans and plants someone to taint Nick. Someone he trusts. However, we never find out who.

Nick learns several things int his story that will challenge his every belief. He learns about the people in his life as well as what he is and what he is destined to do. How does he handle the information overload all the while, trying to stop a demented coach at school? Guess you will have to read and find out.

Until next time,
