Death Masks (The Dresden Files #5)

Harry Dresden, Chicago's only practicing professional wizard, should be happy that business is pretty good for a change. But now he's getting more than he bargained for.

A duel with the Red Court of Vampires' champion, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards...

Professional hit men using Harry for target practice...

The missing Shroud of Turin...

A handless and headless corpse the Chicago police need identified...

Not to mention the return of Harry's ex-girlfriend Susan, who's still struggling with her semivampiric nature. And who seems to have a new man in her life.

Some days, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. No matter how much you're charging.

There are so many words that come to mind with a Dresden file book.

Clever....

The plots that mingle together in this book and others prior are such that there is a fluidity that marks the author as one of the best. Here we have three main plots.

1. Who stole the Shroud of Turin and why?
2. Why is Susan back in town and how will Harry handle it?
3, The ongoing war with the Red Council. Harry is presented with a dual that would in effect end that war if he won.

Sexy.....

Even with Susan in town, Harry has to fins a way to control his desire and love for this woman. The sex scene in the apartment was hot! Jim is getting more brazen with his description.

Smart......

With the introduction of a new and I think, main bad guy(s) in this series along with the melding of many of prior characters in such a way the plot seems flawless. Like I said, smart.

Desirable,

Once I got through the way this author writes, I am mesmerized. I think you will be too. Harry is a character that many people can identify with. Plus the bad ass powers he has is cool.

I would highly recommend this series!

Quotes:

“So. You get handed a holy sword by an archangel, told to go fight the forces of evil, and you somehow remain an atheist. Is that what you're saying?”
Jim Butcher, Death Masks

“How long have you been a Wiccan?'
'A what?'
'A pagan. A witch.'
'I'm not a witch,' I said, glancing out the door. 'I'm a wizard.'
Sanya frowned. 'What is the difference?'
'Wizard has a Z'
He looked at me blankly.
'No one appreciates me.' I muttered.”
