One Of the Guys

One of the Guys by Lisa Aldin

Tomboy to the core, Toni Valentine understands guys. She'll take horror movies, monster hunts and burping contests over manicures. So Toni is horrified when she's sent to the Winston Academy for Girls, where she has to wear a skirt and learn to be a lady while the guys move on without her.

Then Toni meets Emma Elizabeth, a girl at school with boy troubles, and she volunteers one of her friends as a pretend date. Word spreads of Toni’s connections with boys, and she discovers that her new wealthy female classmates will pay big money for fake dates. Looking for a way to connect her old best friends with her new life at school, Toni and Emma start up Toni Valentine’s Rent-A-Gent Service.

But the business meets a scandal when Toni falls for one of her friends--the same guy who happens to be the most sought-after date. With everything she's built on the line, Toni has to decide if she wants to save the business and her old life, or let go of being one of the guys for a chance at love.
Thanks to Spencer Hill and NetGalley for the book in exchange for an honest review.

Being a tomboy is what Toni has always been about. She'd rather play in the mud than get dressed up and wear make up. When a 'senior' prank goes bad her new step-dad and mom decide that she needs to be more of a lady. That is possibly the worst thing ever to Toni, but she goes because what else is she going to do? Nothing's going to change with the boys, they'll still get together and hunt for the lake monster that they first bonded over.  The first week of school though shows her things have changed. Ollie and Cowboy are busy and can't hang out at all. Loch is busy too, he got a job. Toni doesn't feel like she fits in anywhere. Then she meets Emma Elizabeth, she's the girl that befriends Toni after Toni helps Emma out with a boy problem. That was the beginning of 'Rent a Gent'.

Maybe this business will help her hold on to the relationships she has with her boys. The boys aren't the same, she's not the same. Toni doesn't want to be girly but the more she hangs with Emma the more she becomes more girly. Toni also realizes that her feelings for Loch is more than just friends.

I really enjoyed this friends to more story. I thought that Toni had other issues that she really should of been dealing with. She thought her step-dad was out to change everything, to erase her dad but in reality he was just trying to get to know her. She really tried to keep her guys together but it the way things work, people change and when she was sent to a different school in a different town it was bound to drive a wedge into their relationships.  We got to see all of the characters but they weren't really fleshed out. Loch was the one we learned the most about. While Emma was her friend it was odd that Toni never went to her house, she went to Loch, Ollie and Cowboy's homes but not the new girl she was friends. In the end it was a good story, I enjoyed it. It made me laugh and I felt for Toni and the changes she was experiencing. Change for a 17 year old girl is hard.  I think if you like stories about friends to more you would enjoy this one! Leave the author love in the form of a review!
