The Inn at Rose Harbor by Debbie Macomber
I have, no lie, had this post open for two days trying to find the words to express how much I loved this book. New characters, a new setting but the same familiarity of Debbie Macomber's books.
Jo Marie Rose is a widow that lost her husband while he was serving in Afghanistan. They hadn't been married very long but the love they shared was deep and intense. Instead of sitting in her house for one more moment, Jo Marie decides she's going to do something, anything to get her mind on a road to recovery. Living in the house they had together with all of Paul's stuff was just too much and so she decides to open a bread and breakfast. Looking all over for one she finally finds just the one she's looking for in Cedar Cove, Washington. A quaint town that feels welcoming and homey.
She opens the newly named Inn at Rose Harbor and has her first guest, Joshua Weaver. Josh has come home because his step-father Richard is dying. While they have never gotten along Josh is determined to make some peace or at the very least get some of the things that were his mothers. Josh reconnects to a part of his past and realizes that even though he and Richard never saw eye to eye, Richard loved his mom very much and she him, and she was the happiest he had ever seen her.
Jo Marie's second guest is a woman named Abby Kincade. Abby is in town for her brothers wedding and hopes that she can come in to town and be back out before anyone notices. She left town so long ago to get away from the sadness and guilt she carried and vowed not to come back.
I love the way that each person's story is intertwined with the others. We can watch Jo Marie do things at the inn, while seamlessly moving to watch Abby with her own thoughts on why no one in Cedar Cove would ever want to speak to her again. There are other characters in the book that you come to know and enjoy and even a few pop ups from Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series. I can say this with utmost certainty that if you have enjoyed anything that Ms. Macomber's written, this book is for you!
