The Vampire's Assistant (The Saga of Darren Shan #2)
Darren Shan takes us on a journey. This series , with the self named protagonist is about a boy and his life as a vampire's Assistant. In the first book, Darren had to make a choice to save his friend's life by becoming the assistant of the famous vampire, Mr Crepsley.
In this installment, Darren is fighting the need to feed on human blood to survive. Mr Crepsley tells him that this is the only way that he can survive. Darren, resents his decision to become a Vampire's Assistant and by not drinking blood, he feels he be more "human". Darren even thinks that Mr Crepsley will see this and tell him a "way" to become more human.
In this installment, we return to the Cirque De Freak. Where we get see more of the Snake Boy, Elva and we learn a little more about some of the other characters at the Cirque. Especially, the blood hooded, silent helpers.
Darren Shaw uses his sense of macabre, mixed with a humor that is fitting to young adults or those wanting a good, suspenseful read. I am finding myself drawn into the life of Darren, anxious for the next life lesson to be learned. I hope you get as engrossed as I in this twisted little fantasy. Enjoy!
