Invincible by Diana Palmer
Mercenary by name and by nature, Carson is a Lakota Sioux who stays to himself and never keeps women around long enough for anything emotional to develop. But working with his friend Cash Grier on a complex murder investigation provides Carson with another kind of fun shocking Cash's sweet but traditional secretary, Carlie Blair, with tales of his latest conquests.
Then Carlie lands in deep trouble. She saw something she shouldn't have, and now the face of a criminal is stored permanently in her photographic memory and Carlie is the key piece of evidence that could implicate a popular politician in the murder case.
Her only protection is Carson the man she once despised. But when she learns that Carson is more than just a tough guy, Carlie realizes she's endangered herself further. Because now her only chance to live means losing her heart to the most dangerous kind of man.
I received this book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review.
It's no secret that I love Diana Palmer books, this one was no different. Each one does follow the same formula and pattern but it's one that I never tire of. The way Palmer writes a book it makes you feel like you're going home to a community you've grown up in.
Carlie is the shy secretary of the sheriff of Jacobsville, She is smart, quiet but will stand up for herself when the time is needed. Her life right now is a rocky mess, someone is threatening her father and she doesn't know who or what is going on. Enter Carson, tough and incredibly good looking. He makes it clear that Carlie should not get her hopes up for him to love or even touch her. He's a lone wolf and he plans to stay that way.
Carson doesn't carry identification, hes a ex merc and he doesn't do relationships. He has quite the reputation of being a ladies man. He's there to protect Carlie and he doesn't like the feelings she makes him feel. The last time that happened his heart got trampled on. So he does what he does best and makes her feel inferior. Carson can't help but be drawn to her when hes around her.
Watching Carlie and Carson dance and often fight around each other was entertaining and I loved watching Carson's walls come down. He was a total ass but really any Hero in any Palmer book usually is. Learning about her father and his past was equally entertaining and almost as neat as the love story itself. I always love seeing old characters from stories I've read. Like I said before it makes me feel like I'm coming home. It's another hit and I eagerly await the next Diana Palmer book, because I am sure I won't be disappointed!
