A Cowboy's Christmas Promise

A Cowboy's Christmas Promise by Maggie McGinnis

Boston veterinarian Hayley Scampini tends the city’s pampered pets but dreams of the rural life of a country vet. She’s single and determined to stay that way, convinced that love isn’t permanent enough to trust. Then a vacation to the Whisper Creek dude ranch introduces her to Daniel McKee, a sexy single dad who runs the kind of veterinary practice she aspires to—and rattles her conviction to keep men at a distance.

Managing a thriving practice, coping with the loss of his wife, and fighting a custody battle with his in-laws over his twin daughters, Daniel couldn’t be more overwhelmed. Hayley is a godsend, accompanying him in the field and winning over his girls. It doesn’t take Daniel long to realize he’s falling for this woman, hard and fast. So before Hayley returns to Boston, he extracts a promise: that she will return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. It’s the perfect time and place to show Hayley that the promise of a beautiful life together is something she can believe in.

Thanks to NetGalley and Loveswept for the book in exchange for an honest review.

This story was such a great read. Hayley is going back to Whisper Creek for her best friends wedding. She also is interested in what it's like to be a vet to big animals. She'd also like to have a fling. She rarely gets any vacation because she's got her own veterinary practice in Boston that caters to small creatures, so during her two weeks in Montana she wants to have fun. Daniel could be that fun.

Daniel works hard. He comes home and takes care of his girls and does it all over again every day.. His wife died about two years ago and that sting is still there. Now that he's moved back home to Montana his in-laws are upset that they don't have constant access to the girls and are fighting for custody. Meeting Hayley, he knew that they could have fun together but he'd never love anyone the way he loved his wife.

Watching the two of them fight their attraction was nice, he has children to think about and she has responsibilities to deal with back in Boston. His mother-in-law was straight up obnoxious, she was mourning the loss of her daughter I get that but she was rude and overbearing. How Daniel put up with her I'll never know. All in all I loved watching Daniel and Hayley work at the relationship they started. I felt bad for Hayley and all of her mistrust she had of men. Love is hard and you have to work at it. Great book! Check it out and leave the author a review!!
