Point of No Return by NR Walker

I have not read many M/M books, I read a ton of slash, and Owenic was one of my favorites. Now she’s branching out and is publishing her works as NR Walker. She’s always been really good at capturing the emotions of the characters and building them so well you feel like you know them. She doesn't disappoint with this story.

This story is about Detective Matt Elliott. He’s part of the “Fab Four” a group of four detectives in the narcotics division, that just recently made one of the biggest busts of their careers. It’s on the news, everyone’s talking about it, but for some reason Matt thinks they missed something. His gut tells him something is not as it seems. His partner Mitch doesn't agree, after all Pavao Tomic is safely behind bars, and they were instrumental in taking a huge shipment of drugs off the street. What could they have missed? Well they’re about to find out.

Along with worrying about this case Matt has other things on his mind. He’s gay, and very much in the closet. Since he was orphaned at 17, law enforcement has been his life. He’s afraid to trust his secret with his partner and friends in the force. He’s afraid of not just losing their friendships, but also the life and career he’s built the last 10 years. It’s been fairly easy for him to hide it from them in the past. He’s never had a serious relationship, never had a reason to want to tell them. That all changed when he met his new sparring partner. Kira Takeo Franco.

Matt is instantly attracted, and instantly afraid. They spar a few times, and the sexual tension finally gets the best of him, he has no idea how to see Kira without outing himself to his team. Kira helps him out, telling him they all know him as “Frankie” and if Matt calls him Kira , they’ll have no idea who he’s talking about. They start seeing each other, and soon both of them are in love. Matt decides he needs to tell Mitch, his partner and friend. Before he can do that, something big happens, Kira and the teams significant others are all kidnapped. Seems Matt was right, there was something they were missing.

Kira fights, he’s a kickboxer and does all he can to protect the women, even with his hands bound. He won’t give up. It’s torture for the fab four, the person that kidnapped the people that mean the most to them, have set up camera’s so they can see what’s going on. Matt can see how badly Kira is getting beaten and it kills him to see it and not be able to help. But Kira’s smart, and he never gives up, he finds a way to alert them to where they are. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but there’s still so much more to the story.

After everything is over, Matt is so afraid of losing Kira, he loves him. I love Matt’s character, he’s a tough narcotics Detective, but he’s extremely vulnerable. Emotionally this is all new to him. Kira means everything to him, and he’s not willing to give that up without a fight. Kira kicks ass! He’s a great character. Strong, passionate, and extremely loyal. He’s there for Matt, and understands when there’s things Matt can’t talk about due to his job. He never gives up, and by the end of the book I was so impressed with him, I honestly wanted more.

This book has it all, great story, lots of hot boy sex, and great characters that you’ll fall in love with. It’s a quick read, I couldn't put it down once I started, so I finished it in a few hours. I’m really hoping that NR Walker is considering a sequel, I would definitely like to read more about Matt and Kira.
