Styxx (Dark-Hunter #22)

Just when you thought doomsday was over...

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn’t always been on his brother’s side. They’ve spent more centuries going at each other’s throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he’s willing to trade his life and future for Acheron’s.

The Atlantean goddess of Wrath and Misery, Bethany was born to right wrongs. But it was never a task she relished. Until now. She owes Acheron a debt that she vows to repay, no matter what it takes. He will join their fellow gods in hell and nothing is going to stop her.

But things are never what they seem, and Acheron is no longer the last of his line. Styxx and Acheron must put aside their past and learn to trust each other or more will suffer.

Yet it’s hard to risk your own life for someone who once tried to take yours, even when it's your own twin, and when loyalties are skewed and no one can be trusted, not even yourself, how do you find a way back from the darkness that wants to consume the entire world? One that wants to start by devouring your very soul?

Where do I start? Just when you fall in love HARD with Acheron and you think you know the entire story, and here comes Styxx's story and you are left a blubbering mess. Why, you ask? YOU REALIZE THAT THE STORY YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW WAS WRONG!!!!!!!

I read this entire book in a little over a day. I was so moved by the pain and agony of Styxx, that my dreams were riddled with images all night.

This is a story of complete and utter despair followed with complete and utter forgiveness. We see a side of the story we loved from different eyes.

Here is what we get....

1. Styxx loved his brother and more times than not, we see him trying to save Acheron and well...I'll let you read it.
2. Apollo...Dear God.....I had no IDEA what he was all about. The tattoo that is on Styxx's back and all the pain and horror bleeds through every page..
3. Estes and his death all come into perspective.
4. Styxx goes to Atlantis to save his brother and gets more than he bargained for.

Styxx is raped, over and over by the people and gods that are supposed to love him. He tries to save Acheron, but all that happens is the pits of hell are opened up upon him.

We see that Styxx falls in love, marries and has a son. We also see the death of his family by Acheron's mother.

Outside of the story of Styxx's life story we get too see some of his actions in the present time.

The final part of the book tells of Styxx and his battle with the gods of Atlantis. We get to see if his wife is brought back. Also, the secret of his son is relieved. Perhaps the most intriguing part of this story was the revelation by Savitar on what Styxx is.

P.S. There is a little couple pages where the primal source of evil makes an interesting revelation.

THESE BOOKS KILL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quotes:

“The most beautiful heart of all is the one that can still love even while it bleeds, and especially after its been broken into thousands of pieces.”

The strongest of metals is forged under the most violent of conditions, my lord. It is buried deep in the hottest coals and then beat and pounded until it is bent into shaped. Then it becomes the strongest, most lethal of weapons. A thing of absolute beauty and force”

“Man, I'm messed up right now. My best friend is my father? The man I idolized as a kid... whose tattoo is on my arm... And he's younger than me. Yeah, I don't think I can handle this. Mindwipe me, somebody... please! Where's that dragon from Sanctuary? Simi, go get Max. I need him.”

“Ever wonder why the gods created man, Grom? I personally think that we're the original reality show. They were so effing bored that they created us just so that they could feel better about themselves”
