Cross & Crown (Sidewinder #2)

When Nick O'Flaherty arrives at the scene of a double homicide to find he has a witness to the crime, he thinks it’s his lucky day. But when he realizes his witness is suffering from amnesia and can’t even remember his own name, Nick wishes he’d gone with his gut and put in for vacation time.

Then Nick’s boyfriend and former Recon teammate, Kelly Abbott, joins him in Boston, and Nick finds his hands a little too full as the case and his personal life collide. The witness he’s dubbed “JD” is being tailed by Julian Cross, a retired CIA hitman. To complicate matters further, JD forms an attachment to Nick that Nick struggles not to respond to as they search for the key to JD’s identity.

Trying to determine whether JD is friend or foe as they investigate the crime puts them on the trail of a much older mystery. When multiple attempts are made on their lives, Nick is forced to turn to old enemies and new allies to solve a centuries-old crime before he and Kelly get added to the history books.

I had issues with the first of this series, as mentioned in my prior review. This edition, however, I no such conclusions.

A book full of hot lovin' and a historic twist that will leave you gasping!

First, dear lord, the sex in this book is H-O-T!

“I'm going to take you back to our room. I'm going to bend you over the end of our fucking bed, and I'm going to fill you so full of me you'll be screaming in a Boston accent.”
Abigail Roux, Cross & Crown

Second, Julian and Cameron are back! I really enjoyed them in the main series, and this time, Cameron has been kidnapped and held to force Julian to find the hidden colonial treasure.

Third, Nick and Kelly are perfect. The love oozes off the pages. There are not too many times, that you can feel the love between two people in a book. These two, I can feel each beat of their heart as they hold each other. Damn, they are amazing! I would like to see Kelly top, just once.

Finally, the story. I am a history buff, so when someone takes on the quest for the lost British treasure, I'm in! Abigail brings in a host of characters and several linear plot lines that all merge quite nicely. Remember, in most books, you can figure out who did it. This one, do not trust your instincts. The puppet master, the one pulling and forcing people to find this elusive prize, once reveled, you will scratch you head.

You will not see the ending coming! The next book in this series has great potential!!!

Quotes:
“You keep your phone under your pillow?” Kelly asked with a laugh. This was the first time they’d shared a bed while Nick was on duty. “How does it fit beside your gun and your knife and the lube?”
Abigail Roux, Cross & Crown
