After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher’s hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy…that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress and a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn’t felt in years.
Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other’s hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they’ll have to decide if the love they found in one another’s arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.**
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
How can I express how much I loved this story. The words aren't there but I'll try.
Savannah is back home in the small town she grew up in to lick her wounds after she was fired. She was also home for her sisters wedding. While there she got a job offer for a piece in the Lifestyles section of a newspaper in Phoenix. When the idea strikes her to write about the town shut in Asher Lee, she runs with it. It would be a great story of a war hero and the way the town reacted to him when he came home. It will save her career.. Right?
Asher Lee doesn't come out in public. His scars put people off and he is just tired of scaring people. He has a maid/ housekeeper, Mrs. Potts, that takes care of his shopping and him. When Savannah comes to his home wanting to interview him, Mrs Potts tells her in no uncertain terms that Mr. Lee doesn't talk to people. For some reason though (ahem, Mrs Potts badgering him) he decides to give her a chance.
So begins an unlikely friendship. Three times a week Savannah comes to interview Asher and slowly their friendship becomes something more. No one but her mama understands that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Their story is one of love and being able to see past the physical aspects of attraction and delve in to the emotional attraction that makes for a lasting relationship.
I so enjoyed reading this story. There were ups and downs that keeps you engaged and makes you want to keep reading. I am totally enamored with Katy Regnery's words. Her stories keep you wanting more and in the end you don't realized that you've even been reading, its more like you're there with the characters. If you've not read a book by her I suggest you get on it! When you do, leave her love in the form of a review!
