Scorched

Scorched by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Sometimes life leaves a mark…

Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.

Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.

Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock bottom, only she can save herself.

Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after…**

I loved the first book in this series so so much. This one left me feeling a little conflicted. On the one hand I loved getting to go back into this world but on the other the characters felt off to me.

Tanner and Andrea fight, all the time. He picks at her and this starts the ball rolling or vice versa. They don't know much about each other, just casual stuff since their best friends are dating each other. They've graduated and now are on to what they went to school for. Tanner is going to be a cop and Andrea a teacher.

One thing that jumps out at me is that Andrea has issues, you notice it from the start. She drinks, and not just a couple. She drinks until shes drunk and then sometimes has one night stands. She's known of Tanner since Freshman year but he never even noticed her. Now all of the sudden he is flirting with her and treating her like he'd like to know more. He's a manwhore though so why would he want to get involved with her?

Tanner isn't denying his past.. He did used to sleep around a lot but now that he's graduated he'd like to straighten up. Plus ever since he's starting hanging out more with Andrea there's a spark there. He feels like something good could come from them being together. The only thing is he doesn't know how to stop picking fights with her. When Kyler invites him on a trip with his girlfriend Sydney, and he finds out Andrea's coming he thinks it'll be the perfect opportunity to find out if there is something there, more than lust. He's worried though about her drinking, everyone is.

Lots of twists and turns with this story. They have undeniable lust for each other, even though Andrea fights it. I don't want to say too much so that I give away all of the things going on but something was different about this story, it's almost like it was a PSA about anxiety, and binge drinking among other things. It was well written and there were times where it didn't bother me. Please don't misunderstand I'm not making light of any of the subjects spoken about in this book, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Andrea was stubborn about anything anyone wanted to talk to her about and she didn't even want to talk to Tanner half the time. In the end I didn't hate this book but I didn't love it either. Let me know what you think about the book and as always review the book for the author, they work hard and deserve it!
