Beautiful Darkness

May contain spoilers!

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.**

Wow.. I don't even know where to begin with this book. I loved the first one and this one just dragged for me. I would say it got really good in the last 75 pages.

Lena doesn't know if she is light or dark but she is certain she killed her uncle Macon. That causes her to pull away from Ethan because if she's dark then she'll kill him but if she's light she can't be with him either. She starts hanging with Ridley and a new guy John Breed. We don't really know what John is, his eyes don't tell us anything but Lena is stuck like glue to him.

Meanwhile, Ethan starts working at the library with Marian and a new keeper in training Olivia or Liv for short. Liv is everything Lena isn't, blonde and sweet and uncomplicated.  Its easy to be around Liv and with Lena pushing him away and then running away with John and Ridley he figures that he could get to know her better.  When Ethan finds out that he's a wayward, basically that means he finds things, he sets off on a journey to find Lena and bring her home. He takes Liv and Link with him through the tunnels and encounters a lot of surprising things down there. I really don't want to tell you because some of the things he learns are what made me keep reading!

Seriously though, this book wasn't horrible it just took so much time of following them through the tunnels and all the twist and turns that they find along the way. Even though I said I was bored I'm looking forward to reading book three.
