Dagger Brotherhood series continues as a vampire warrior crosses the line between life and death…into a world of dark dreams and darker desires.
Ever since the death of his shellan, Tohrment has been a heartbroken shadow of the vampire leader he once was. Brought back to the Brotherhood by a self-serving fallen angel, he fights again with ruthless vengeance, unprepared for a new tragedy. Seeing his beloved in dreams—trapped in a cold, isolated netherworld—Tohr turns to the angel Lassiter to save his former mate. The only way to rescue her is for Tohr to love another. As war with the lessers rages, and a new clan of vampires vie for the Blind King’s throne, Tohr struggles between an unforgettable past and a hot, passion-filled future. But can his heart let go and set all of them free?
One vampire's nightmare. An angel determined to correct the past. A woman, tormented about her past. Another, torn by his love of a forbidden fruit.
This book elicited so many emotions. From screaming for Tohr and his desire for his shellan. For No'One and her fear of loving another, to almost crying at the Fade ceremony at the end of the book.
First, we see Thor's torment. His anger and fear from moving on. We also get a taste of Lassiter and why he there. Wellesandra, is trapped in a sort of purgatory and the only way for her and their son to move on is for Tohr to move on with his life. The ride that he and No'One (Autumn) take is a roller coaster ride. Their love starts with Tohr only trying to help his dead shellan move on. He quickly find out that he is starting to fall in love with her. Their story, in my opinion was one of best written of the series. This, like the last book, shows that J.R's writing has changed. Less "insta love" and more drama.
Xhex and John. This was a nice addition. We find that Xhex has a real issue with the male dominated society of the old world. She bucks the tradition and leaves the house. All she wants is acceptance and an equal footing with the Brothers when it comes to fighting and decisions that need to be made. We see the evolution of John and Xhex's relationship into something more that a visceral connection. They finally find the deep love they both need.
Xcor and his Band of Bastards. Now here is something. I thought that he might be gay. However the connect between him and Layla made me rethink that. I foresee an epic battle between them and the Brothers.
Next, there is the development with Qhuinn and Blay. The last two pages of the book. DED... Qhuinn had a vision of the future where he mated with Layla and a child was born. When Layla whent into her needing, my mind went all a flutter. I cannot wait to see how this all plays out in the next book.
I have to vent now. Where in the hell is the Scribe Virgin? She is absent yet again. Also, where is the Omega and the lessers. I really enjoy the dark side of this series and yet again, I am left disappointed. I know J.R. will deliver in the end.
Finally, I will leave you with this. There is a scene when Autumn is in her needing and Blay and Saxton are locked together in the library. I always imagined Qhuinn as the top in their love upcoming, however, the way Blay took control of Saxton like like....HOT AS HELL!!!!
Until next time, I leave you with a few quotes from the book.
“Enough, Qhuinn thought. Enough with the excuses and the avoidance, and trying to be someone else, anyone else.
Even if he got shanked, even if his precious little ego and his dumbass little heart got shattered into a million pieces, it was time to stop the bullshit. It was time to be a male.
As Blay started to straighten like a message had been received, Qhuinn thought, Thats right buddy:
Our future has come”
Secondly,
And what Qhuinn saw in it caused him to falter: Love shone out of that face, unadulterated love untempered by the shyness that was very much part of his reserve.
Blay didn't look away.
And for the first time ... neither did Qhuinn.
He didn't know whether the emotion was for his cousin—it probably was-but he'd take it: He stared right back at Blaylock and let everything he had in his heart show in his face.
He just let that shit fly.
Because there was a lesson in this Fade ceremony tonight: You could lose the ones you loved in the blink of an eye-and he was willing to bet when it happened, you weren't thinking about all the reasons that could have kept you apart.
You thought of all the reasons that kept you together.”
First of all, I LOVE the pics you posted on this review LOL! And second... Great review! Have to say that I was SO hoping Wellsie would, yanno, be reincarnated like Darius was through JM in this book... but, alas, it didn't happen *sigh* But I'm happy that Tohr found some peace :)
