The Summer I Found You

Review may contain SPOILERS

The Summer I Found You by Jolene Perry

All they have in common is that they're less than perfect. And all they're looking for is the perfect distraction.

Kate's dream boyfriend has just broken up with her and she's still reeling from her diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Aidan planned on being a lifer in the army and went to Afghanistan straight out of high school. Now he's a disabled young veteran struggling to embrace his new life. When Kate and Aidan find each other neither one wants to get attached. But could they be right for each other after all?**

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

We meet Kate when her boyfriend of a year and a half is breaking up with her, at school and out of the blue. She is devastated and she really doesn't understand but it is what it is. She rides home with her friend Jen and sees someone looking out of the apartment that Jen's parent's house has and wonders who's in there. Jen's cousin is living with them there and that's the end of that whole conversation. Kate goes home and her mother is immediately on her, the last year has been a mess for her. She was diagnosed with diabetes and she acts like she can ignore it and it'll go away. Her parents are trying to get her to get that its SERIOUS.

Aidan lost his arm in combat in Afghanistan. He doesn't know what he's going to do with his life, so he makes a list. He meets Kate when Jen drags him to the senior carnival to have even numbers, boys/girls. He likes Kate, she doesn't act like he's normal. She blurts things out that are completely inappropriate, but its honest.

I enjoyed this book, it was a fast read and you got to see in both of their heads. Aidan needed to work through things and so did Kate. In the end they found a soul that understood what the other was going through. Aidan's loss and pain was on display and Kate could hide hers. Despite the situations that were in this book it was light, sometimes were scary but it seemed like it was easy for them to be together.
