Loving Irish

Loving Irish by Katy Regnery

Ian Haven and Halcyon Gilbert haven't seen each other since Hallie's 17th birthday...
...the same day Hallie pledged she would never, ever speak to Ian again as long as she lived.

Hallie Gilbert has had an especially awful year. When her husband of five years left her, Hallie’s 4-year-old daughter, Jenny, essentially stopped speaking. Add to this, she had to sell her Boston apartment to pay her husband’s exorbitant credit card bills. What Hallie needs is an uncomplicated autumn at Colby Cottage, her family’s summer home in Sandwich, NH, where she and Jenny can re-group and figure out what happens next.

But Colby Cottage, located adjacent to the Summerhaven Camp, has not been well-maintained and Hallie finds it in such disrepair, it's almost unlivable. When nearby camp owner, Rory Haven, arranges for his brother, Ian, to handle renovations for Hallie, her plans for an uncomplicated autumn suddenly get a lot more challenging. **

Hallie has had a terrible year, her husband left her and her daughter Jenny blames her for all of the bad things.  Having to start over, selling everything she can to pay off the debt her ex left behind, she moves to her family cabin near Summerhaven Camp. She knew it was going to be some work to get it to be liveable but she didn't realize that it was practically condemned.  She is happy to be near her friend Brittney, a familiar happy face is just what she needs right now, especially since Jenny won't even speak to her. Brittney begs Hallie to let the one person that Hallie swore she would never ever speak to again, Ian Haven.

Ian has been working on being sober and being a better person in general. When he finds out that Halcyon Gilbert is back in the area to live he's glad to have the chance to make amends and maybe find out why she automatically assumed the worst of him all those years later.  She doesn't want anything to do with him, she would rather they didn't even speak ever.  He'll just fix things around her house and leave her be. He's always going to love her but he can't force her to love him back.

I love going into the worlds that Katy Regnery writes. I feel like I'm watching a movie when I read her books. Ian in the first book was an ass, he was recovering but a jerk to Tierney, it was expected. Finally, though he decided that his life was worth living. Living out in the real world, not at the bottom of a bottle. He has loved Hallie since he was a kid and he's never stopped. Hallie loved Ian with all she was when she was 17 but he betrayed her, she couldn't ever forgive him.  BUT, what if what she thought she saw all those years ago wasn't what really happened. Can their love come back to them? Can things that they missed out on in their years apart grow again?

I loved Hallie and I loved Ian. No other words. I don't want to spoil anything for you. This book wasn't all rainbows and sunshine but real life isn't like that either.  Happily ever afters take work and sometimes that's the best thing for you. If you haven't had a chance to visit Summerhaven, I suggest you get to it and see the world that Katy creates.
