City of Lost Souls

City of Lost Souls:

The New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments continues—and so do the thrills and danger for Jace, Clary, and Simon.

What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

Summary via Goodreads

So, this story keeps getting better and better. We left last, with the glass coffin of Sebastian destroyed and he and Jace gone.

No one knows where they are, the Clave only knew that the blood on the roof was not enough to warrant Jace's death.

There is so much in the novel to scream on this review, but I do not want to spoil it for you, so I will again list a few of the major plot points and try not to give away anything.

1. Alec, plagued with a doubt the Magnus will outlive him. How will this fear play into the plot development? More importantly, what decisions will Alec make that could ultimately destroy them.

2. Isabelle and Simon continually tease each other. They are in love and refuse to admit it! Where will this go?

3. Jace and Clary are strung through a series of events that would normally destroy someone. They are plagued with possessions, demons, and the ultimate plan Sebastian has crafted.

4. Sebastian, a troubled soul to say the least. He is ravaged by the belief that Lilith is his mother and he will do anything to bring her back.

5. The angel Raziel makes another appearance and takes something form Simon in exchange for his help.

6. The Fairy Queen, Maureen, Jordan, Maia, Camille, and a cast of minor characters play a very important role.  What that role is could be anyone's guess. I cannot wait to see how some of their unanswered plot points play out in the final book.

I wondered how Sebastian's plan would differ from his father's and I was surprised. The final book can only be amazing. Also, how could this ending be more tragic. I cannot tell you what happens, but Magnus is my favorite character and I was screaming inside at the end!

The final sentence tells all, ""Erchomai", which means "I am coming""

See you next time!
