Dance with the Devil (Dark-Hunter #4)

Zarek's Point of View:

Dark-Hunter: A soulless guardian who stands between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. Yeah, right. The only part of that Code of Honor I got was eternity and solitude.

Insanity: A condition many say I suffer from after being alone for so long. But I don't suffer from my insanity-I enjoy every minute of it.

Trust: I can't trust anyone...not even myself. The only thing I trust in is my ability to do the wrong thing in any situation and to hurt anyone who gets in my way.

Truth: I endured a lifetime as a Roman slave, and 900 years as an exiled Dark-Hunter. Now I'm tired of enduring. I want the truth about what happened the night I was exiled-I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Astrid (Greek, meaning star): An exceptional woman who can see straight to the truth. Brave and strong, she is a point of light in the darkness. She touches me and I tremble. She smiles and my cold heart shatters.

Zarek: They say even the most damned man can be forgiven. I never believed that until the night Astrid opened her door to me and made this feral beast want to be human again. Made me want to love and be loved. But how can an ex-slave whose soul is owned by a Greek goddess ever dream of touching, let alone holding, a fiery star?

Finally a Dark Hunter book that was not a meet and mate! Actually, this was the best book so far. Zarek is tortured and hated. His story is amazing!

Where to start......Where to start.....

Major Plot Points.

1. Artemis was Zarek dead. Ash, convinces her to send a judge to make the decision. They decide to send Artemis' daughter Astrid for the task.
2. Zarek's past is laid out for us in all its poignant details. We get to see the relationship with his brother and how he hated Valerius for just trying to help him when he was a child.
3. We get to see more into the dream hunter realm.
4. Astrid struggles with how she is going to break through Zarek's hard outer core.
5. We get to see Sasha, Astrid's companion a were hunter. I hope that one day he gets a book.
6. We get glimpses into Ash and just how powerful he is.
7. Who would've guessed the Squires had such a deep history and how organized they are.
8. Spawn...I hope I learn more about him. An Apolloite and a Dark Hunter.
9. The love that blossoms between Zarek and Astrid is beautiful.
10. Finally...the word cock was used!!!! I almost screamed....Finally!!!!
11. Simi...such a beautiful creature. She truly is worth everything to Ash. His tattoo is beautiful as is Simi. I am so glad that we get to see her in a more active role.
12. Another way to kill a Dark Hunter is reviled  I think this little tidbit of information will play a role later in the series.

Quotes:

“I have found my star. She is beauty and grace. Elegance and goodness. My laughter in winter. She is courageous and strong. Bold and tempting. Unlike any other in all the universe, and I cannot touch her. I dare not even try." [Zarek]”
Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dance with the Devil

“The Simi is environmentally sound. Eat everything except for hooves”
Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dance with the Devil

“No, he wasn't a pig. He was a lonely, hurt man who didn't know how to cope in a world that had turned its back on him. [Astrid]”
Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dance with the Devil

“Stars aren’t supposed to cry. They’re supposed to laugh. (Zarek)
How can I laugh when I have no heart? (Astrid)
You have a heart. (He placed her hand over his.) One that only beats for you, princess. (Zarek)”
