Infamous (Chronicles of Nick #3)

The world has fallen in love with Nick Gautier and the Dark-Hunters. Now Nick's saga continues in the next eagerly anticipated volume...

Go to school. Get good grades. Stay out of trouble. That's the mandate for most kids. But Nick Gautier isn't the average teenager. He's a boy with a destiny not even he fully understands. And his first mandate is to stay alive while everyone, even his own father, tries to kill him. He's learned to raise the dead, divination and clairvoyance, so why is learning to drive and keep a girlfriend so hard?

But driving isn't the primary skill he has to master. Survival is. And in order to survive, his next lesson makes all the others pale in comparison. He is on the brink of becoming either the greatest hero mankind has ever known - or he'll be the one who ends the world. With enemies new and old gathering forces, he will have to call on every part of himself to fight or he'll lose everyone he cares about. Even himself.

This series is amazing. These books are nothing like Sherrilyn's over dramatic Dark Hunter series. I will read them, however since I do love the characters that she has developed in this story.

Here we are drawn though a story where Nick is still struggling with his life. Kody and his demon friends grow closer even as his future self gives him warnings about what is to come. Nick's school is plagued by a website that is spreading viscous rumors about Nick and his classmates. This is a very interesting plot that I had no idea how it was going to turn out. Second, Nick's father decides that his needs to kill his son. We learn a lot about Nick's lore. Very intriguing how this plays out. Third, is the development of Nick and Kody.  Granted, I am now halfway through Inferno and know some things, but that does not diminish the moments they have.

Now, with my little plot summary above, I have to dive into some of my opinions.

1. Nick is way to witty. I know that this is a YA book, but dear god, that boy has to have a perpetual boner. With the thoughts going though his mind, you might as well be developing a young, hung (I am sure, as all these damn romance books have) porn star. This boy, must be beating his meat in the shower for hours. I am sorry, but there is too much sexual innuendos written where there is no development. I was a 16 year old guy once and I know what I did and thought of, so Nick a sexual demon at hear better were a sign. "My powers and my cock are growing!" Sorry, for being so blunt but there is a fine line between YA and a strong hint of full adult over dramatized romance books. I must say though, emphatically, "I do love the series, even the sexual references, no matter how vague."

2. Sherrilyn's world building is amazing. How someone can pop out a billion adult novels and now four YA books that draw out of the same universe is a skill that one cannot deny. I worry that this series might get boring as I believe, there is ten books planned.

3. Finally, ambiguity. Kudos lady! To be so vague yet engaging with the words you put paper are amazing.

Until next time,
