Dark Magic (Dark #4)

They were masters of the darkness, searching through eternity for a mistress of the light...

WOULD SHE FIND MAGIC -- OR MADNESS IN HIS DARK EMBRACE?

Young Savannah Dubrinsky is a mistress of illusion, a world-famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions. But there is one--Gregori, the Dark One--who holds her in terrifying thrall. Whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality send shivers of danger, of desire, down her slender spine.

With a dark magic all his own, Gregori--the implacable hunter, the legendary healer, the most powerful of Carpathian males--whispers in Savannah's mind that he is her destiny. That she was born to save his immortal soul. And now, here in New Orleans, the hour has finally come to claim her. To make her completely his. In a ritual as old as time ... and as inescapable as eternity.

With the daughter of the Carpathian race and the "dark one" the famous hunter of vampires, I thought that this book would be better.

I was pleasantly surprised that I actually really enjoyed it. Now, the repetition that annoys the hell out of me is still there. The word "velvet" and "dark one" get extremely annoying. Overall the story was well delivered.

Gregori, bonds with Savanna while she is still in the womb. He knows she is the one. Once she turns 18, he goes to claim her. Savannah is not ready, and she asks for five more years. He gives it to her, even though he is well past the time of 200 years that the men of his race have to mate before they convert to a vampire.

This is a story of a man that once, presented with the woman he wants, reacts in a pure feral way. He rapes her and yet, Savannah still forgives him and falls in love with him. Yep, you read it right. No matter how unrealistic this little fact is, it happens.

Also, a character by the name of Gary Jansen, who is a true believer in the lore. He quickly becomes Gregori's first human friend.

Better book....Onto the next....
