Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1)

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

What can I day about this one? I've fought it for many years and here in one day I gobbled this book down. I am starting the second as soon as I finish this review.

I love fantasy! I had no idea this book would take the turn it did.

We have Celaena, an assassin, known across the land as the best. She was caught and sentenced to a life of hard labor.

Enter a prince. To her, Dorian was the embodiment of everything she despised. His father was the reason that she was here.

What did Dorian want? For her to be his champion in a battle to the end for the service to be his father's personal assassin.  To sweeten the deal, she is offered her freedom for four years of service.

Calaena agrees and travel to the castle of glass.

Here she quickly falls into a routine, training and gaining her strength back under the guise of a another woman.

As the weeks drag on, she finds the company of a new friend and someone from the past.

Without spilling anything, I will tell you that there is death, love and battles galore.

The last five chapters had me at the edge of my seat, as dark secrets are revealed.

Onward! Book 2!

Until Next Time,
