Trivial Pursuits

Trivial Pursuits by Aven Ellis

Landon Holder is exactly the kind of man Livy Adams should stay far away from.

The flashy, flirty star defenseman for the Chicago Buffaloes is known for hooking up with women all over Chicago. Livy finds herself attracted to Landy, but his sexy good looks and charm are irrelevant. She had her heart shattered by a cheating athlete in college, and Livy vows she will never let her judgment lapse like that ever again.

Yet Livy knows she can’t spend the rest of her life focusing on building her jewelry line during the day and her evenings playing TriviaPlayOrPass! on her phone, either. Even though she does have fabulous conversations with a player named Scott, it’s time to get back in the game—in real life. While Livy tries to figure out her career path in jewelry design, she knows it’s time to take a chance on romance again, too.

But in a strange twist of fate, Livy finds herself getting to know Landy on a much deeper level. Sometimes people aren’t always as they appear to be. Just like a diamond, you have to look closely to see true clarity.

As Livy unwraps the layers around Landy to see the man behind the image, will she have a change of heart? Can she leave her past behind for a future with Landy? Or is it all a game of trivial pursuits?**

I want to thank the author, Aven Ellis, for the book in exchange for an honest review.

I found Aven a last year when one of my author friends, Jo Richardson, retweeted a tweet about her story Waiting for Prince Harry. I was intrigued and I figured why not? I loved it. I enjoyed Harry and Kylie so much. It was sweet and happy. Just what I was looking for! I have to admit I read the others as soon as they came out because I enjoyed Aven's style of writing.

We met the main characters in Aubrey and Beckett's book. Livy was burned before by another athlete and she doesn't think she could come back from another failed relationship. Landy seems nice but he's a player in more ways than one. She has to deal with him because her best friend is with his but the attraction she feels has to stay inside. Then she sees another side to Landy. For one he volunteers at the same school she does, but doesn't want the press to know about it. He has a cat that he cares for like it's his daughter, and he's SUPER smart. There is more to the man then you first see.

Landon may be the selfie king of the team but he doesn't want his whole life to be out in the world. He likes staying in, watching a movie and having some sushi. Playing a round of TriviaPlayorPass! When he found out that Livy was the girl he'd been playing a lot he wanted to get to know her in the real world. He knew some things from the conversations they'd had on the game, but he invited her to dinner at his place and they both realized they were different than what they thought of each other.

Man I loved both of these characters, and the secondary characters like her mom and grandma. I loved that even though he had a public persona he wanted to get to know Livy on a personal level, it wasn't about being out and being seen.  So much sweetness and love in this story and I enjoyed every single minute. I read it so fast and then was instantly sad that I was finished so fast with it.  I'm looking forward to the next book eagerly. Check out Ms. Ellis' books, you won't regret it! They're awesome!
