Accidental Cowgirl

Accidental Cowgirl by Maggie McGinnis

After being betrayed by her con man ex-fiancĂ©, Kyla Bennett nurses a broken heart. But Kyla's friends have other ideas and when they whisk her off to Whisper Creek, a dude ranch staffed by cowboys so hot they dim the Montana sunset, all Kyla wants to do is hide under a quilt. Then in rides Decker Driscoll. He’s hauling about as much emotional baggage as Kyla, but when he stands close by, both of them want to stay close—and begin to succumb to an undeniable attraction.

After experiencing personal tragedy, Decker never thought he’d see Big Sky country again. But now that his family's Whisper Creek property is in deep with a Vegas gambler, Decker’s back for the summer—and spending all his time running from “cowgirls” who come to the dude ranch to score some dudes. Then he meets Kyla, a kindred spirit who brings on a stampede of protective feelings . . . and a powerful hankering to sear her with a new brand of love.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley.

Kyla doesn't know if she can ever trust a guy again. I mean the one she was supposed to live with the rest of her life ended up being married already and set her up to go to jail. Her friends try to take her mind off of all the crap she's been living with for the past year and take her on vacation, to a dude ranch. At first she has no clue what possessed them to bring her to a ranch in Montana, but slowly she starts relaxing and realizes that she could easily stay there forever.

Decker doesn't believe he even deserves to be loved or have love in his life. He feels like he's responsible for things that happened when he was just a teenager. Things he had no control over and yet he was blamed for and eventually ran off the ranch for. Now that his father is gone he can come home and help his Ma and brother, Cole, to make this idea of a dude ranch work and maybe make some of the debt his father left behind go away.

Decker and Kyla have an almost instant connection, one that they both fight.  When they finally let things take its course its explosions and she feels like even more she wants to stay and help him with the family ranch. Decker gets skittish and lashes out. Sometimes though it takes almost losing a person to show how much they truly mean to you.

Very nice read, just enough angst to make you think that they aren't meant to be together and then something flips and they end up on top. I enjoyed it enough that I read it in one afternoon, it kept my attention and in the end I kind of wanted more. I wanted to read Cole's story and maybe Jess and Hayley story too ( they are Kyla's best friends). I sincerely hope that the author plans to write their stories too.
