This little slice of delicious is a perfect example of how to write a story that has nothing to do with the main series.
Here we meet two souls that will be a part of the rest of the series. I think this is why they are so well written.
The daughter of Dracula marries a man that is an enemy to her family. Both families disown the other and the star crossed lovers set out to carry out their own slice of Romeo and Juliet. However, this stunt carries deadly consequences. Some that will haunt Velkan and Retta for hundreds of years.
Yes, Velkan sells his soul to Artemis, however Retta is bound to him so she is now part of his eternity. Retta, full of hate over what she saw when she opens her eyes and Velkan, who has spent the last five hundred years in torment over his love. All the while, there is a hidden society that is hell bent on destroying anything paranormal. There are several of minor were hunters introduced and I cannot wait to see how these two play into the main plot.
