I must be brave.
I must do what has to be done.
I am Alice.
Alice is the most powerful witch the county has ever seen. She may one day be the most evil. But Alice is also the best friend -and true love- of Tom Ward. Together they work to defeat the Fiend -the world's greatest evil- once and for all.
They have nearly everything they need, all except a blade hidden in the Dark, the Fiend's domain. So Alice ventures there to find it. She faces the most terrifying creatures in existence. And she once again battles old enemies who bear grudges: Bony Lizzie, Bloodeye, and more.
And there's something Tom didn't tell her. To vanquish the Fiend, Tom must sacrifice the person he loves most. Alice is hunting for the very blade that will eventually kill her.
This is a sad moment in life. I just finished the next to last book in an amazing yet sad series.
We know that Alice knows about the sacrifice that she has to make. She is prepared to die and go into the dark to get the last of three items that Tom needs to destroy the Fiend.
I am sad. I love Alice and Tom. Even though this is a YA book, I think that these two should at least get one moment to explore the love that is growing between them. They could be a great force for the light.
Alice goes into the dark with the help of Pan. He does ask her to pay a price for that help and I am anxious to see what price Alice will have to pay.
We see Alice and unexpected friend fight though the dark. Several of the dead enemies that we saw them vanquish in earlier books are here. Waiting. Hoping for a chance to kill Alice.
There are a few questions I have. First this story is told through Alice's POV. We get to see her early life with Bony Lizzie and some of her early training. They go on an adventure that brings Alice to her first meeting with the Fiend. We also learn about Alice's true powers and what she can really do. It's amazing the power she holds. There is a tattoo like moon that once fully formed with Alice will be owned by the dark.
Hint, this moon fully appears in this book. How will it affect Alice? More importantly, what the two were doing in the great north and what they find I fear will play a factor in the last book.
Overall this is a great book, especially at the end when Grimalkin meets Alice and gives her another option to defeat the Fiend. However, this option might destroy her in another manner.
