It Had to Be You by Jill Shalvis
Ali Winters is not having a good day. Her boyfriend left her, everyone in town thinks she's a thief, and now she's about to be kicked out of her home. Her only shot at keeping a roof over her head and clearing her name is to beg for help from a police detective who's as sexy as he is stern....
After a high-profile case goes wrong, Luke Hanover returns to his hometown for some peace and quiet. Instead he finds a bombshell brunette in a heap of trouble. As he helps Ali put her world back together, the pieces of Luke's own life finally seem to fall into place. Is this the start of a sizzling fling? Or are Luke and Ali on the brink of something big in a little town called Lucky Harbor?
Who breaks up with someone via text message? Apparently Ted Marshall does. He's a total tool about it too, sends the text and has already moved out of the house they were sharing while she was gone. Oh and the lease is up too on the house. Ali just doesn't understand what happened. She thought things were going good. I mean yeah they hadn't slept together in a while but that happens in relationships. Oh and he was sleeping in another room but it was because he snored, right? Normally one could chalk it up to a dip in their relationship, but here and now it meant things were over. Not only did he leave her high and dry he also had been sleeping with a ton of women. His office was a revolving door of women, or so she was told. Now she's being accused of stealing fifty grand. All she really stole was a clay pot and it was the clay pot that had evidence in it and got her arrested.
I forgot to mention that the owner of the house had been back in town and living in the house with Ali. Luke Hanover was back in Lucky Harbor to escape from his real life. He needed space from his job and all the things and people he'd let down again. He's convinced he let down his grandma and a girl that ended up dead. Luke just wants peace but what he walks in to is a woman in his house in just her underwear yelling at her phone. He doesn't want to get involved but something about her just screams to him that she's innocent. There also a van full of senior citizens that want him to help her too.

Helping Ali is all he wants to do but he can't help the growing attraction that he has for her. She has the same attraction for him. Both know its a bad thing to give in to, that there is nothing coming from it. He'll be going back to his job and home in San Francisco. It was always the plan, come to Lucky Harbor and recoup then go back. He didn't plan on Ali though.
I so loved this book, I really hated putting it down to do the mundane chores around the house. Luke was hot and closed off but with Ali he was tender and rough all at the same time. Ali was soft and sweet at times, tough as nails when she had to be. Jill Shalvis knows how to weave a tale and keep you hooked and wanting more. I always feel like I'm right there in Lucky Harbor with the characters. We saw some old and were introduced to some new. I can't wait to start the next one. I'm never let down by this authors work and I don't think you will be either.
